I have helped a variety of students with schoolwork in informal settings throughout most of my life, including students with learning disabilities. As I am no longer in school myself, having recently finished my Undergraduate degree in English, I would like to continue assisting students with classes and tests through tutoring. I have developed memorization techniques based on the psychology of encoding and retrieval that can help with nearly any class or test. I also believe that technology has an important role in helping students study throughout the day, and will typically develop ways for students to review material on their phones in order to better understand and memorize the subject. I have a strong background in AP Exams, having taken 4 in high school and earning the maximum scores on all of them. I believe that with good practice methods and techniques, most students can do the same. I am capable of helping students who are at any level in their classes or test preparation, from students who are struggling to grasp material, to those who simply want to do the best they possibly can.

Though I did not take the ACT, I did incredibly well in Algebra 1 and 2, AP Calculus (earning a 5/5 on the AP Exam) and on the Math portion of the SAT. Please contact me if you are struggling or need assistance in any class or with any test prep work. I can help students at any age or ability level, including those with learning disabilities. I am willing to tutor in person or online, whatever is most convenient for you. Thank you very much.

Film

Though I majored in English literature, I have taken several college level classes on film and film history, including American, Italian, German, and Japanese film, among several others. Personally, I have viewed hundreds of films, by a diverse range of directors, from dozens of countries and across every period of history. Some of my favorite directors are Ingmar Bergman, Yasujiro Ozu, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, John Cassavetes, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, and Paul Thomas Anderson. I am incredibly well-versed in both the critical analysis of individual films, the history of film, and the details of film production itself. I have seen so many films that I am able to understand not only the deeper meaning of most films, but also the references placed within films and their significance in the history of cinema. For example, I recently watched the film The Night of the Hunter and quickly realized the multiple references that other films have made to it, for example the LOVE/HATE tattoos on the knuckles in "Do the Right Thing" and "Punch Drunk Love", as well as the line "It's a hard world for the little things", referenced in "Raising Arizona". However, while trivia is interesting I am able to understand the place film has as a form of art itself, as well as the elements that make it unique from other forms of literary art. I am very good at explaining the way in which film changed over time, the specific films that helped shape the artwork to what it is today, and the current films that I believe are innovating the medium the most.
