Gnomon (Animation VFX )
I am a VFX Artist out of LA. Having worked on big budget films such as "Spider-man and Harry Potter" I have come to find that there is no good training in Maryland, and would like to offer students an insight into the VFX industry, getting them involved in group projects and having them putting out film quality work.
I know it took me many years training myself and going to school back in the day to gear myself to jump into the production life of movie making. I would like to train students in all aspects of animation. So I have broken my classes down into a production pipeline.
I will be taking the students through the first steps of production with MODELING. In this step we will be looking at the art the student will be picking to create and then going into the program we will be using. MAYA is a must tool to use in the VFX world. We will be going through the interface of the program, setting up project files and where and what everything is used for leading up to starting the students' projects. At the end of this first step the student will have gained the knowledge of the inner workings of MAYA the 3D program we will be working with. At the end of this class the student will be walking away knowing how to do creature modeling or organic modeling.
We will then take the model the student has created in the first class. and start adding color to the model. We will be going through the work flow between MAYA and PHOTOSHOP giving the student the ability to use Photoshop on a production level.
We will then be doing rigging. In this step we focus on putting bones into the Model giving the student a good idea on how anatomy works, And mobility to the model we have created in 3D.
Now we move onto Animation. in this we will go through motion and walk cycles. teaching movement and the functions within MAYA to animate on a production level.
If students have gone through any of these steps. I can pick up and help where you are having problems.
The programs we will be going through are: Autodesk Maya, Photoshop, After Effects, and Zbrush.

Mikele is very knowledgeable and made it easy for me to understand the concepts I needed to. I had very specific questions regarding UVs and textures (using Maya and Photoshop) and he was quickly able to help me understand the concepts, best practices, as well as the industry pipeline best practices (something that those with less experience would not be able to do). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. I have studied concept art for nine years and worked with some of the best artists in the visual effects industry on some of the best movies. Such as Life of Pi, How to Train Your Dragon at DreamWorks. I have a full understanding of color theory and composition, and I have a good understanding of motion and mood lighting.
I have worked with Maya for the past 15 years, nine of them in the production world. I went to school in LA for VFX and have since worked at Paramount, DreamWorks, Lola, and a number of other studios through out the years.
I started off as a modeling artist and quickly was placed into the lighting aspect of Maya, rigging, animation, and rendering.
I have worked on such movies as: Harry Potter, Spiderman, Xmen, Hugo, and so on. On each movie I found my self having to do a lot more than was required, such as learning Zbrush and other programs that work with Maya.
I try give the students a full background on the VFX world, and get them started on thinking the way they will have to in the production life. I will tutor in all the best practice methods we use to create commercials or a feature film.
