Educational/math tutoring background:
I have an associate's degree in business administration, and have taken every math course up to Calculus II as well as statistics for my own self-interest.
I currently work as a drop-in tutor for a local college. Drop-in tutoring not only developed my basic tutoring skills, but also taught me how to quickly adapt to different learning styles and alter my teaching style based on how each individual student learns.
My teaching methods focus on core math concepts rather than the memorization of rules, so that math makes sense to my students. For short term, this means better grades in class. For long term, this means actually being able to apply the knowledge you obtain to real life situations as opposed to only pushing through a course for a grade.
I have about seven years of experience playing guitar and five years of experience singing, songwriting, and performing.
This experience has included:
•Formal training from world-renowned glass-shattering vocal coach, Jaime Vendera
•Independently studying vocal techniques from various world-class vocal coaches
•One year of formal voice lessons from Make N Music
•Formal Lessons in Speech Level Singing (SLS)
•One year of formal guitar lessons from local musician, Jimi Cupino
•A couple music courses at Frederick Community College
If you are looking to increase range, build power into your voice, and want to be able to sing for hours every day without hurting your voice, I can help you achieve this in a safe manner. The methods I use have taken my range all the way up to soprano A5, and my voice can reach up to 115 decibels in volume (the average singer only reaches around 80-90dB).
*****If you cancel an appointment without at least 20-24 hours of notice, then you will be charged for a half hour. If no notice is given and I drive all the way out to you, that is considered lesson fulfilled and you will be charged for a full hour. Family emergencies and other crises may be excused, but few exceptions are made. No exceptions are made if you do not call ahead and you let me drive out to you.
***For math, I do not supply practice problems, and I will not assign official homework. It is the student's responsibility to put in the time to practice the material in the book or on worksheets the instructor has given him or her. I am only here to help with with the learning process and guide students in the right direction. I help create leaders—not followers—because I want people to be successful in their own lives. Voice lessons are $35 for 30 minutes or $60 for an hour. I recommend an hour if it is your first lesson.
Matt was able to explain Algebra to my son in a way that he understood. We have already set up a future session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing guitar for about six years, and have been singing and writing songs for about five years. This experience includes formal lessons from a local music store, formal lessons in speech level singing, and studying the techniques of some of the best vocal coaches in the world.
These techniques include the open throat technique Ken Tamplin uses, the isolation method made popular by Jaime Vendera, the classical opera techniques with a rock style made popular by Jim Gillette, and voice strengthening techniques by Elizabeth Sabine.
I touch upon mindset, health, diet, singing in tune, singing naturally, breathing, diaphragmatic support, singing with power, and many other concepts.
