I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have always loved working with students, helping them learn, and finding ways to make learning experiences fun, enjoyable, and successful for all of my students. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have always loved working with students, helping them learn, and finding ways to make learning experiences fun, enjoyable, and successful for all of my students. There is nothing more exciting for me than to see a student have that "lightbulb/aha" moment in my classroom. Teaching has been my passion since I graduated from Oberlin College many years ago. I truly believe that education is the key to a lifetime of success and opens doors and opportunities. As people, we are lifelong learners. I work to empower students to be confident, self-advocates, curious, and critical thinkers.

In my years as a teacher, I have taught both history and English in middle school and in high school. I have always enjoyed being in the classroom, and have often held book clubs, tutoring sessions, and quiet places to read and work during the school day for any student in my building. As an Administrator, I wanted my teachers and students to have a love of reading, and a community where it was okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them.

I love helping my students get better at reading and writing! I spend quite a bit of time learning the strengths and areas of growth for each of my students, and create individualized plans based on the diagnostics I use. I create a safe space for students where they can comfortable asking questions, learning through their mistakes, and become strong, confident readers and writers. We also have lots of fun in the process. :)

Having lead schools at the start of the Common Core movement, I had to learn about Common Core, its shifts, and the standards in order to coach and support my teachers. I have spent years studying the vertical progressions of the standards, and understand how to interpret them, understand exactly what the standard is asking for, how to plan with the standard, and how to work with students based on the standards.
