Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in Theology and Biblical Studies. I have taught undergraduates and laymen various subjects in both disciplines. I have also tutored seminarians in the study of biblical Greek.

English

I have an excellent command of the English language. I am able to identify and teach the parts of speech of a sentence, recognize subject and verb agreement and I possess a good vocabulary. In addition, my education required me to read and write extensively which firmly established my use of the language.

Grammar

As a grammarian, I have studied a number of languages. I possess a keen awareness of the role grammar plays in sentence structure and interpretation. American English is my first language so I am particularly interested in the rules that govern the syntax of the written and spoken word. I have taught foreign languages to students, therefore I am confident of my ability to teach English grammar as well.

Proofreading

I have an extensive background in proofreading. In college and graduate school I took seminar classes in which students would analyze and proofread each other's papers. In general we were checking for mistakes in spelling, grammar and argument. I have helped a number of my colleagues submit papers that were on par with our professors' guidelines and, in their final form, were of publishable quality. As an adjunct professor, I assigned writing projects to undergraduate college students. I graded their papers looking for mistakes in spelling, grammar and argument as well.

Reading

I am an avid reader. I'm interested in a variety of subjects such as: history and biographies as well as fiction and nonfiction literature. I also enjoy reading and discussing literary works in poetry. I am able to identify and interpret various genres of writing. I read on a graduate level.

Religion

I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in Theology. My specific areas of interest are in Judaism and Christianity. I have been trained in Protestant Theology and Catholic Theology. I have taught undergraduates in the study of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and I have independently studied and taught lessons in Islam to laymen.

Writing

My educational background required me to do a lot of research and writing. In college I wrote on a variety of subjects and in different styles. To name a few, I wrote research papers, creative writing papers and persuasive writing papers. I have written poetry as well as book reviews. I finished graduate school with two research papers; one exegetical, the other thematic/topical. In addition, I have assisted colleagues with various writing assignments.
