About Janet

I have over 30 years of managerial experience using all the Microsoft Office products, with a heavy focus in Excel for data analysis, formulas, macros, and charting. I am proficient in the use of Word, Powerpoint, Project, Publisher, and Outlook. My degree is in chemistry, but don't let that scare you off! I coached others in the use of these products over the years and I am currently teaching part-time in a non-related field.

The tutoring approach will be to first identify your goals and then to agree on a plan for achievement. The tutor session is customized for your level of knowledge and specific application. The important thing is to first solve the problem at hand and second determine if you desire more in-depth learning.

I look forward to hearing from you and together achieving success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Excel

I use formulas, macros, tables, and charting. I used Excel in engineering and business for 30 years so plenty of experience and upgrades.

Microsoft Outlook

Anyone who has more than one email address would benefit by using Outlook. I have 3 email addresses in mine now and I just open Outlook to check the status of each. Outlook needs to be set up with the email account information and passwords, but after that it works automatically to gather the new mail when you sign on.

Messages can be organized in .pst folders or archived in one giant folder as a back-up in case you ever need a message again. Alerts can be set up to notify you if Aunt Clara (or the boss) is sending a message and the screen freezes until you acknowledge the alert. Address lists are useful for periodic mass mailings. Rules can be set up to automate what to do when a certain message comes in. The search function is excellent for finding a message by date, subject, or sender. Messages can be flagged, prioritized, color coded, categorized, etc. This is just a sample of the productivity tools that I use routinely in Outlook and want to share with others.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have 1000 hours experience making presentations in PowerPoint for a Fortune 500 company. It is a powerful program with many options to learn. I can show you how to make your presentation impactful and include anything you need within the slideshow.

Microsoft Publisher

I used the Microsoft Publisher for 10 years to produce a variety of documents. The main use is for flyers, signs, calendars, newsletters, and even business cards but that is not the best use. You can import photos, clip art, and input text. It is useful for small business and other groups because once the group information is entered once it is always reproduced. You can enter a logo, tagline, your name, your title, address, phone number just one time. It will always show up forever after if you use the templates. And there are plenty of templates. It is a fairly easy program, but it will be a breeze after a one-hour coaching session.

Microsoft Word

My 20 years of experience using Word in actual business situations plus my teaching experience combine to offer you the opportunity to resolve lingering questions.

Excellent First Lesson

My first lesson with Janet consisted of us meeting at a Public Library as we spent just a few moments identifying my needs pertaining to MS Excel; so that she could establish an efficacious lesson plan and strategy that would help elevate my skill-set moving forward. She possesses the necessary knowledge, proficiency, and equanimity, while providing the lesson that reassured me, I've partnered wit
