I have had the pleasure of teaching high school math for 9 years. I am currently teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools at Sherwood High School.
I teach because I love helping students with difficult concepts. I believe math is the perfect venue to teach our youth the life skill of working through struggle. Tutoring also holds a special place in my heart because I have seen so much improvement in the math confidence of the students whom I tutor.
I have taught Precalculus, Algebra 2, Algebra 1, and ESOL Algebra 1 (catered to English Language Learners). I have tutored in all the above subjects and also in Statistics, Calculus and Geometry.
I look forward to working with you or your child on improving your skills and confidence in any of these subjects. I am also open to tutor other levels of math that were not listed, such as SAT II Math. I have had the pleasure of teaching high school math for 9 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Algebra 1 to traditional students and English Language Learners. I enjoy helping algebra students make connections through prior knowledge and utilizing their strengths to understand the abstract concepts of Algebra.
I have taught Algebra 2 for 9 years. Through my experience I have learned that making connections are specifically important in Algebra 2 because it is a subject where the topics seem to be so disjoint from one another. This makes tutoring in Algebra 2 that much more rewarding for me.
I have taught and tutored in Precalculus for 9 years. I believe that having taught Algebra 2 I can help students with the parts that they struggle most often with in Precalculus, which is the Algebra 2 background that is necessary to understand most of Precalculus. I also have tutored and taught trig which is specifically important for understanding PreCalculus.
I have tutored for 10 years in SAT I and SAT II math. I have also tutored in GRE and PRAXIS math tests as well. I am very familiar with testing strategies, specifically in math, and have also accrued many resources for tutoring the above tests. The students that I have tutored have all reported that their scores improved after working with me, and that they enjoyed how thoroughly I was able to break down each problem for them.
I have taught trig for 9 years. I truly enjoy teaching trig to students because it is often an area of struggle and I see so many positive results after breaking trig down to the basics. I have taught basic trig skills to Algebra 2 and Geometry students, all the way up to complex trig proofs to Precalculus students.
