About Andrew

These bios are always tedious to write, aren’t they? In fact, anything you’re in the middle of writing seems overwhelming, no? To quote Eliot, a poet who may be a source of frustration for you or your child, writing often seems like an unending task, requiring “a hundred indecisions… a hundred visions and revisions before the taking of toast and tea”. With a little work, I’m sure you and I can nullify these indecisions and get that revision number down to just two or three.
I graduated from University of South Carolina cum laude with a BA in English. I am knowledgable in all aspects of the English language. Grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, literary criticism, discourse analysis, rhetoric, memorization, writing, the list goes on. I can articulate the core concepts of all these subjects comprehensibly and -more importantly- in a way that won’t leave you bored out of your skull. I have studied the languages immediately related to English, those being Ancient Greek, Latin, and French, as well as history, particularly in relation to language development. This knowledge gives me the ability to explain why certain things are the way they are with a degree of depth not everyone has. Also, in regard to French, I have a firm command of the language, and having received my scores on the TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) I’m capable of providing solid instruction for beginner and intermediary students.
Thank you for taking the time to read this mass of words; I’d like to leave you with one last thought on my approach. I’m not here to make you a faster reader, boost your kids grades, or teach you how to sound like you know what you’re talking about. All these things will happen, I’ll make sure that they do. However, my reason for being here is to help you or your child realize the potential of their own thoughts, their own minds. In brief, the thirst for knowledge is the greatest gift I’ve ever received. Let’s work together to hack your brain and give you the same unquenchable thirst that has driven great men and women to attain the attainable and achieve the highest, self-actualized form themselves.
Cheers!

You'll come to find I'm a pretty easygoing guy. It's something of a philosophy for me. So, let me make things easier for you. More importantly, let's take all the edges off of learning and make the process as vivd and exciting as it's meant to be. Cheers!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have a Bachelor's in English. I graduated Cum Laude from USC. I understand the vernacular of - and reasoning behind - grammatical concepts. I understand the Latin, Grecian, and French roots behind much of English vocabulary. I am equal parts patient and encouraging with my students.
