Saint Mary's College of Maryland (Economics,English)
Hello, my name is Kathleen and I am a rising junior at Saint Mary's College of Maryland where I am studying Economics and English. I am currently in the works of lifting off my writing career by writing short stories and flash fiction, book reviews, as well as course work from the Chesapeake Bay Writers’ Conference. This Fall I will be studying abroad at the University College of Dublin where I plan on studying the same subjects.
I have little experience tutoring, but I am an avid member of study groups in college where I help the group by teaching them what I know and listening intently to what I do not know. I would love to start helping young students excel in English. English is an important art form to understand because it not only helps with our own human character, but our views of the world. In my experience as an English student, the great teachers were the ones who gave lots of reading and writing assignments, as well as the willingness to meet with their students’ for one on one time to improve their writing.
As a beginning tutor and teacher, I hope that my willingness to go the extra mile will help my students as much as my past teachers have helped me. I hope my enthusiasm and positivity will inspire students to work harder and learn more. The goal for each tutoring session is to keep students learning about literature and the writing process.
I have taken English Lit and Lang AP classes in high school, so I am familiar with what AP classes entail, as well as the AP test. I have never earned less than a B in each of my English classes in high school as well as college. At college I have currently completed two writing heavy English classes, so I am also aware of the expectations for writing at a collegiate level.
I look forward to hearing you and helping you achieve success in your English classes! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
