About Peter

Hello prospective students, parents, friends, and family,

I want to give you an idea of what I do and what I am about. I taught fine art and digital art for about 9 years in various schools throughout Baltimore, Howard County, and Montgomery County. I have worked with computer graphics for over 15 years. I can teach traditional drawing, oil and acrylic painting, calligraphy, photo and video editing, 3D computer animation, and special effects. I have taught children, teens, and adults in the use of computer graphics technology and multimedia. I am certified by the state of Maryland to teach art and have spent the last six years teaching in special education. I currently work as a gallery educator in a local museum as well as the Community Outreach Coordinator at a modern and contemporary art museum in Potomac, MD.

I also studied Japanese extensively while in college and participated in a Japanese Speaking Immersion group. I also taught a Japanese immersion camp at AACC where I helped children learn and gain an appreciation for the Japanese language and culture by creating, illustrating, and translating an original story into Japanese. I tutor Japanese at $50 per hour.

I am excited about what I know and about what I do which is helping people to learn traditional fine art skills, to learn the basics of the Japanese language, and to learn digital multimedia to where they can continue to learn and eventually be able to teach others.

If you are interested please contact me through WyzAnt email with a specific description of your goals, and/or project ideas and please send attachments of some photos that you would like to edit in Photoshop if digital imaging is your interest. I can not be able to begin tutoring unless I have these. Please also be aware that I work children as part of my profession and that I WILL NOT TUTOR and help edit images that I would not help my own students edit in class. These include images with any kind of nudity or indecent exposure, obscenity, or any images that I believe to be inappropriate. This is for my personal and professional protection.

I hope I can be of help to many of you.

Thank you,
Peter

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I completed a Masters in Art History from Azusa Pacific University.

Art Theory

I am Maryland State Department of Education certified in Art from Pre-K to 12th grade. I studied and received a Bachelor of Arts in Imaging and Digital Arts through the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I also studied and received a Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching through Notre Dame of Maryland University. I have personally studied and taught the principles of design in both my computer graphics and in my photography classes. I approach understanding art theory through measurable and historical methods. Through academic research I investigate and discover the ways in which these principles were employed throughout various art movements as well as in the modern and commercial art movements today.

Drawing

I am certified through the Maryland State Department of Education to teach Art from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I also have a Masters of Arts in Leadership in Teaching from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. In college my major was in digital arts with an emphasis in animation. Prior to my training in animation I received extensive training in drawing for realism from my instructor through the methods developed by Betty Edwards (Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain). My portfolio for the visual arts program I was accepted into in college was mostly comprised of drawings that demonstrated a solid foundation in 1, 2, and 3 point perspective, proportion, human anatomy and physiology, and shading.

Painting

I am certified in Art N-12 through MSDE and have taught art for 9 years. I specialize in both digital and traditional art, and have experience with drawing and oil painting and water color painting. I paint representationally and illustratively and have experience teaching both. I have a Masters in Leadership in Teaching and in Modern Art History.

Flexible and Student Friendly- A tutor who truly knows the value of art

Mr. Peter is a very patient and student-friendly teacher. He is very flexible and does not make you feel pressured about your current drawing progress. He teaches valuable lessons that at the time you will not understand, but over-time you will realize the importance of it. He teaches in a fun and charismatic way, and it is a joy to come in every time to show him how much I have improved. If you w
