About Angelica

I obtained a dual engineering degree (biomedical and electrical) in 1990 and have worked as an engineer for 26 years. I obtained my masters degree in applied mathematics in 1997 and have privately tutored a diverse group of elementary, middle, and high school students in math for the past 15 years. I have enjoyed my interactions with young students and have gained a great sense of satisfaction in watching them grow and go on to apply what they have learned, while succeeding in advanced math courses. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have tutored numerous subjects from pre-algebra to AP calculus. I currently have two Algebra 1 students, I'm aware of the current material being covered in HoCo.

Algebra 2

I have tutored numerous high school students in algebra, who have gone on to Excel.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have privately tutored a diverse group of elementary and middle school students in math for the past nine years. I have enjoyed my interactions with these young students and have gained a great sense of satisfaction in watching them grow and go on to apply what they have learned independently. Additionally, I have a child in the middle school and am continually being exposed to the teaching methods her elementary and now middle school instructors have used. I like to tailor my lessons, if possible, so that they employ a child's interests/likes. Each child is different; therefore, it is beneficial to have several different methods of teaching a math topic and to make the topic interesting to the child. Computer games/websites, reinforcement worksheets, and manipulatives are often used.
