As a teacher, my primary goal is to develop a student’s enthusiasm for, and knowledge and questioning of physics and its different applications.
The education plan of my work has several components, some of which are interconnected with my research, which has done in Nepal, and others will fall outside from research topic. Specially, the plan will be comprehensive program designed to encourage students of different levels from Middle School to High school. The central goal to my students is to have them acquire critical assets, including knowledge, skills, and interests.
My formal teaching began as a middle school physics teacher while I was in my undergraduate level for one year which was the great time and took advantage to distribute my knowledge. After finishing my masters in physics, I got the chance to teach in undergraduate as well as in higher secondary school in Nepal. I worked as a physics instructor as well as laboratory teacher, which was my great time to share the knowledge of physics what I gained during my graduate study. I gave a number of lecture about heat and thermodynamics, modern physics, mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics. In undergraduate I taught Quantum mechanics and electronics. Once I move to USA on May 2009, I discontinue my teaching profession and worked as a manager in Store but I was continuously studying physics (self study), additionally, I was teaching to my former student online from Skype. For fulfill my gap in teaching and refresh my knowledge I am doing my masters in Applied Physics (graduating in may 2015) at SCSU (Southern Connecticut State University at new haven, CT).
I believe that students learn best by doing rather than by passively listening or watching. Thus, I am strong proponent of interacting learning, asking students for suggestions, encouraging questioning and promoting discussion during lectures. Moreover I will directly apply taught skills to practical examples that I provide inside as well as outside class. To motivate students, I use clear, understandable and exciting example form broad range of applications. Aside from fostering critical thinking my students, my additional goal as an educator is to promote good communications skill, as these are more important today’s interdisciplinary and often international, research community. For such kind of development I will have special class at the end of each month so every student will participate for discussion. Students get basic knowledge how the scientific paper is developed in physics.
In summary, I am committed to becoming an effective teacher with the goal of preparing my students with solid foundation of knowledge, skills and enthusiasm they will need to succeed professionally.
