As a tutor, I have been working with students from Pre-K through twelve for the past eight years. My tutoring approach simply is this: to meet students where they are at academically so that they have the necessary tools and motivation to dream and achieve beyond their imaginations and expectations. In doing so, I encourage them to always do their best and settle for nothing less than what they know they are capable of accomplishing. If they are unable to do either, then I encourage them to try because when it is all said and done--effort or lack thereof--will help to shape their mindset in life and what they will or will not be able and willing to do.
Subject areas that I tutor include but are not limited to: handwriting, reading, spelling, phonics, and vocabulary. In reading, I work with students covering topic material such as diagraphs (ch, ph, sh), dipthongs (oy, ow, ay), identifying initial, middle, and final sounds in words, vowel patterns (CVE, CVCE, CVCC), producing and identifying rhyming words in response to an oral prompt, sight words, short/long vowel sounds, syllables, cause/effect, and context clues. With respect to handwriting, I work with students to improve their penmanship by having them first trace alphabetic letters (lower and upper case) and then practice writing those same letters on separate handwriting worksheets.
I truly enjoy helping and/or supporting students in these academic disciplines. Working with students from different grade levels with varied learning styles, I challenge them to maximize their intellectual potential and talent. Learning from my students, I too have grown--as an educator and individual. Keeping their best interests at heart, I encourage my students to make a sincere effort to complete whatever task is given to them whether it is academically related or not. By doing this, they have the opportunity to become well-rounded and successful citizens of society. It is a rewarding job to witness the confidence and growth in children as they work to accomplish personal learning goals they never thought possible. I look forward to this wonderful opportunity of continuing to work with students who want and/or need additional academic support.
Outside of those subjects I have certified in through WyzAnt tutoring, I do not have any other applicable credentials at this time. I do have experience in a variety of fields. In addition to my extensive professional experience, I have strong communication, customer service, and administrative skills. My broad background, I feel, makes me an excellent candidate for this position. I always welcome the opportunity to tell how my skills and ideas can help students as well as any support that fellow teachers, parents, and others can give me. I appreciate the opportunity to tell others about me and my qualifications. In closing, thank you for your time and consideration. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
