I am a retired Math teacher, and my years of experience both in the classroom and as a consultant to several Math book publishers provides my tutoring students with a wealth of materials and ideas to clarify the most challenging concepts. For ten years, I was a volunteer school Math Club moderator, while working in a corporate setting (and doubling my teacher salary). The most frequent comment I heard from Math Club participants was, "I hate Math class, but I love Math Club." I missed the daily interaction with students in the classroom, and returned to full-time teaching as soon as my family could handle the reduction in salary and the hours of take-home work. Many students that I have tutored over the years have benefited from my experience, and several former math phobics have reclaimed their potential to do Math, and have gone on to become Math teachers themselves.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught from several of the popular high school Geometry text books, and have used Geometer's Sketchpad software. I currently coach a math team, and can supplement instruction with challenging problems that have appeared in competition. I have also helped many students prepare for the P/SAT, which is estimated by some to be as high as 60-70% Geometry. I am familiar with many online resources and have posted practice exams to which your child could have access. One of the highlights of my long career as a mathematician was working with a team at MIT to develop a math video game for middle school students, which your child can also access. I am passionate about teaching geometry because it so visual and creates a clear understanding of many algebraic concepts.
