Hello, my name is Marlene. I graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor's in Mathematics and Regent University with a Master's in Educational Leadership. I have 10 years of experience as a high school math teacher, teaching Algebra and Geometry. During that time, I conducted after school tutoring with students needing additional help and assisted with homework. Currently, I am teaching developmental math courses, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra, at a local community college. I really enjoy helping students in the math lab there, where I worked with them individually. I love teaching and boosting students' confidence in the subject. I believe every student can do math and that it is not just for certain ones.
Because of my experience as a teacher and student, I understand the frustration, discouragement and sometimes the tears that a student can experience taking a math course. As your tutor, I will do my very best to help guide you with knowledge and instruction, and encourage you along your journey through it. I believe you can do it and so should you!
I like to break down math concepts in a simple way. I believe math doesn't need to sound as complicated as many believe it to be. I have unique simple sayings to help students remember how to work through problems. I want to shatter the belief that math is hard. I want students to say, "I am good at math." You will find me to be a motivator/cheerleader as well as a tutor.
