About Linda

I am passionate about education at every level. I believe each person learns concepts differently and it is a matter of figuring out how you learn and process the subject, especially accounting. I am currently the Associate Head for Finance and Operations for Indian Creek School and teach an online professional development course. I love figuring out how each person learns and watching them grow! The journey is the best part!

My BIO: Linda joined Indian Creek School as the Director of Finance and Operations in June, 2014 and was promoted to Associate Head in July 2015. Previously, Linda served Baltimore Lab School as the Director of Finance and Operations where she created stand-alone financial and operational processes and helped the school spin off as an independent entity, as it had been a division of the Lab School of Washington since its founding in 2000. Prior to that, she served as the Chief Financial Officer for Grace Episcopal Day School where she helped to restructure the school’s business operations by creating and implementing multi-year business and financial plans. Linda has also served as the Director, Consulting Services for the National Business Officer’s Association. Her primary responsibilities included leading consulting assignments specifically focused on school sustainability, leadership and governance, and operational effectiveness; developing and writing best practice standards for school business operations and presenting on various topics at regional and national conferences for independent school professionals. She believes in developing strong infrastructures with effective teams, systems, programs and tools that promote school stability, growth and long-term sustainability. Linda has held various other positions within independent schools throughout her career. In addition to Indian Creek, Linda teaches a professional online course for those wishing to learn more about independent school business operations and is a frequent presenter at local and national conferences. Linda has also served on several nonprofit boards in various leadership positions including Tabor Academy, Summit Montessori School and the Association of College Counselors of Independent Schools. She is passionate about education believing that every child should have access to an educational experience that nurtures his/her authentic self. Linda is a graduate of Tabor Academy, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Maine, a Graduate Certificate in Business Leadership for Independent Schools from Johns Hopkins University, is a CPA and a member of the AICPA.

I currently teach an online professional development course through NBOA and the Online School for Girls: the Essentials of the Business Office. This is a 6 week course that teaches the many facets of independent school business operations. I love the flexibility the online environment provides. In addition to teaching this course, I have a degree in accounting and am a CPA.

After graduating college, I went to work for what was then Coopers & Lybrand. Part of their career progression requires each person to learn how to mentor their team mates. I have spent the last twenty years working to ensure that those coming into the workforce had detailed career development plans, including the resources and support to achieve them. I have helped numerous people advance within my organizations.

In my role as a chief business officer for an independent school and as the associate director responsible for consulting, I have spoken at numerous regional and national conferences on a wide range of topics. I have had formal training on public speaking as well as the experience that comes with the life of being "on the road".

I am passionate about education at every level. I believe each person learns concepts differently and it is a matter of figuring out how you learn and process the subject, especially accounting. You really can learn this! So reach out and we will figure it out together.

Great rapport - understands that people learn in different ways.

Linda has a great talent for assessing learning styles and then adapting her teaching style accordingly. She has a gift for knowing when to press forward and when to try another approach, especially with a subject as frustrating as accounting. She did a good job of demystifying the jargon and stressing the importance of fundamentals.
