University of North Carolina, Wilmington (Elementary Education)
I am an elementary education certified teacher who had the great opportunity to teach 4th grade and 5th grade over the past few years in both Colorado Springs, CO and Wilmington, NC where I attended college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Last year while in CO I took a break from teaching while I had my first baby in March(2015). We were currently stationed at Ft. Carson where my husband worked with the Army. He deployed this past February and I decided to move back "home" to MD to be with family during that time. I am looking to keep with teaching by offering my tutoring services while here. I absolutely love teaching especially one-on-one.
While teaching at St. Mark Catholic School in Wilmington and James Irwin Charter Elementary in Colorado Springs, CO, I gained experience in designing lesson plans for children of multiple learning styles. I taught Language Arts (grammar, writing, reading and spelling) as well as Math and Science. I commonly use many different teaching methods in order to intrigue my students and create meaningful and memorable lessons. I also have come to really appreciate technology aides when teaching. Children respond well to educational games and interaction, something that I have found very useful in the classroom. Not only do I appreciate the assistance of technology but I also like to use hands-on approaches to learning concepts and then practicing these concepts on paper with pencil.
I graduated in December 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in social and behavioral science. Throughout my college career, I had the opportunity to work in many different education settings, whether it be in the classroom one-on-one, in small groups, or after school tutoring.
My junior year of college, I had the opportunity to work with one child twice a week one-on-one. I communicated thoroughly with him and his parents in order to get an accurate idea of where he needed the most assistance. By pre-assessing him, I was able to figure out where his strengths and weaknesses were. After this, I then created individualized lesson plans catered to his learning style in order to help him better understand the material, and have fun while learning it.
My mission when tutoring students is to create memorable lessons that students will have fun with and remember. I want my students to associate learning with fun and create tactics that can help them problem solve in multiple scenarios. I have spent a few years in the classroom, working with children in writing and editing, math, reading, and studying. I have planned, organized, and run small group instruction in order to give students the opportunity to understand and learn to their fullest potential. I love working with children and helping them achieve to the best of their ability. I am an elementary education certified teacher who had the great opportunity to teach 4th grade and 5th grade over the past few years in both
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
