University of Maryland Baltimore County (American Studies)
I am currently in my last semester of undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I majored in American Studies and very close to finishing the Elementary Education Certification program. Come December, I will be certified to teach in Maryland.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher from an early age. In high school, I completed the Elementary Education program in which I dedicated 3 years to working with young children in our in-house nursery and my first job was a tutoring job for a well known tutoring company. Since then, I have had numerous (over 4 years worth) field experiences in Elementary Schools ranging from charter schools to public schools thanks to the Education courses in college.
Currently, I am a full-time teaching intern, or student teacher, for a 3rd grade classroom in a Baltimore County School. There, I teach reading, science, and math every day in the classroom. Because of this, I am very familiar with teacher's expectations, knowledge on Common Core standards, its curriculum, and standardized tests.
Unfortunately, due to my full-time student teaching and my once a week class (Wednesday evenings) I am only available evenings and weekends. However, I am very flexible in scheduling.
I teach Elementary School Reading class. My major, American Studies, is a reading and writing intensive major. Prior to studying American Studies, I was initially an English major. During my time in the Education Certification course at UMBC, I have had numerous courses in Reading and Writing. This includes training in phonics, reading fluency, writing, vocabulary, and overall grammar.
I have been teaching and planning based on Common Core standards for years now and I currently teach in a 3rd grade classroom.
I will receive my certification in Elementary Education in December and have had over 8 years of training to become an Elementary School Teacher from both high school and college courses.
I am passionate when it comes to teaching and helping young minds grow. By allowing me to tutor your student, not only will you and your student benefit, but in return I will gain experience and more knowledge in the field of teaching. I am known to be positively motivating and engaging and I look forward to this partnership! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
