About Katherine

I spent two and a half years in college to earn a degree in Early Education. The desire to teach children has never left me. I became not only a substitute teacher but also an instructional assistant. I have a B.S. in computer science so I can tutor elementary and middle school students on all types of Microsoft software including windows 8, 10, PowerPoint and Excel.

I am highly skilled in providing one-on-one assistance with students, assisting in the implementation of the program, as well as working with a small group of students. I also prepare and help the children and families by meeting program goals, and helping in meeting individual needs of each student. My passion is for the children to achieve the skills they need to continue on their educational quest of learning. When they “get it” there’s not a better feeling then to see their “ah ha” moment reflected in their eyes.

As an instructional assistant I comprehend that a teacher’s time is valuable. I know just how to make use of available resources to come up with interactive activities for young students and to assist in preparing solid curriculum(s) as well as reading/telling stories to the students and helping with A/V and library studies. My ability to make independent decisions, working with minimum supervision and the ability to take criticism positively has been the prime reasons behind my success in the educational world.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
