With over 35 years of clinical nursing, teaching, and tutoring experience, as well as holding board certifications in many clinical specialties, I use my qualifications to offer quality tutoring to each and every student I work with--- that is designed to meet the individual needs of each student. As a Master's prepared Clinical Nurse Specialist, who holds a Ph.D. in Human Services Psychology, I have worked with countless learners from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences, learning styles, and individual needs----including challenges with language, learning disabilities, or individuals who are returning to school after many years in the professional world. I have worked with many students who are changing majors or careers, and are challenged with building on prior learning and experience in a subject area that may be totally new to them! I have helped many students through nursing school, and in successfully passing the NCLEX, and have worked with many graduate students on research papers, and in completion of thesis and dissertation work. Many students seek help in the undergraduate/graduate school application process, and I have worked successfully with students to create professional, persuasive essays that present engaging content to strengthen their admission applications. In my tutoring sessions, I bring many years of experience to the table to offer my students every possible advantage, in a relaxed, engaging, and quality atmosphere, that leads to a positive, successful learning experience. Whether you are a high school, undergraduate, graduate, or adult learning student enrolled in continuing education classes, I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to reach your academic goals. The majority of my availability is for online tutoring only, with occasional availability for in-person tutoring, with online lessons being highly effective---and most convenient---for the large majority of my students.
Highly Recommended NCLEX Tutor and Mentor!
I contacted Dr. K. at the beginning of my senior year at The Catholic University of America. I was having trouble answering NCLEX style questions and I needed a major confidence boost. After my first couple of sessions with Dr. K. my exam scores improved immensely and I had the confidence I needed to graduate nursing school. I continued to do these sessions all throughout the school year leading up to my Exit HESI exam, which I did not pass the first time. Dr. K. helped me to relax and take the best approach I needed in order to pass. She gave me several practice questions and techniques that helped me to step back and pick the correct answer. I passed my Exit HESI on my second attempt and then after graduation it was time for the NCLEX. I continued to do tutor sessions over the summer with Dr. K. so that I would be fully prepared for the exam. Once again Dr. K. set me up with thousands of practice questions, told me how many I should be trying to do per day, and how I also needed to make sure I mentally rested. With Dr. K.’s help I passed my NCLEX on the first try. If it wasn’t for all her help and support throughout this process, I would have continued to struggle with NCLEX style questions. I highly recommend Dr. K. as a tutor and a mentor. To this day I still keep in touch with her and she helps me whenever she can. She is very honest and will not make you pay for anything that you do not need. She will tell you when you are succeeding and when you need a little extra practice. Once again, I highly recommend her to anyone struggling with nursing school and/or NCLEX!Gabriella, 33 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:
Gabriella: Thank you so very much for your positive feedback, and for allowing me to be a small part of your success at CUA and on your NCLEX. Congratulations on your passing your NCLEX on the first try, and becoming a RN after all of the hard work you invested, as a result of your high level of motivation to succeed. In every one of our 30+ lessons together, you were always prepared, asked relevant questions, and were self-directed in applying feedback to plan your next best step. It was an absolute pleasure to work with a student who demonstrated the high level of motivation and commitment to quality and success that you did. This experience tells me that you have begun your career on the strong foundation that you worked so hard to build, and I am confident you will contribute much to our profession. Welcome to our ranks. We are stronger already for having you among us! Best of luck in your nursing career--and remember that I am available to assist you when you begin your graduate work--which I hope will be soon. To your success, Dr. K.
Knowledgeable and patient tutor
Dr. K. was phenomenal. She was patient, kind and above all seem to know everything! She helped me in my darkest hours and pulled me out, and gave me the tools I needed to succeed. I will be using her services as a tutor throughout my post Master's Nurse Practitioner Program and my Doctorate program if I decided to pursue it. I feel with Dr. K. that anything is possible and first the first time after the start of my NP program, I have started to think about getting even a higher level of education. I highly recommend her to any study of any grade level from Associate Degree to Post Graduate level. She is the most amazing education and person you will ever meet.Gail , 3 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:
Gail: I sincerely appreciate your generously complimentary review of our work together in leading you to a very successful outcome on your final exam in your Nurse Practitioner program. It was my sincere pleasure to be able to validate your own expertise and help boost your confidence so that you would have the opportunity to demonstrate both on your exam--which you did quite impressively--and I hope you are as proud of your efforts and success as I am. It was wonderful to read that our work together affirmed your desire to think about getting even a higher level of education. This outcome is like music to my ears, as instilling the confidence and eagerness for lifelong learning--be it academic or in any way--is one that I consider to be the highest compliment and the most rewarding outcome for both student and tutor. I stand ready to support you through any part of your future journey, as I am confident that you can not only do anything that you put your mind to, but that you can excel in the process. Your determination and perseverance were an inspiration, and I know you will contribute much to nursing as a leader and competent, compassionate clinician. To your success, Dr. K.
The ABSOLUTE best NCLEX Tutor
Look no further - Dr. K. is absolutely wonderful. I am not one to take the time to write reviews, however, I couldn’t not write one for Dr. K. I took the NCLEX the first time and got 265 questions and unfortunately did not pass. I was so beyond upset and frustrated with myself as the last thing I wanted to do for another 45 days was study yet again. I knew my original study plan needed to change the second time around. I found Dr. K. who literally changed my life. She is not only smart and very knowledgable, but she is extremely personable as well. Dr. K. took the time to get to know me and my study habits prior to working on a study plan together. Not only did she help me with content, she also gave me strategies to help me answer all the different types of questions on the NCLEX. What I really loved most about Dr. K. is that she was always there for me and was my number one supporter. She gave me all the time I needed and was willing to work with me as much as I needed. A week before taking the NCLEX for the second time, Dr. K. talked to me almost every single day to calm my nerves. I really appreciated how honest Dr. K. was with me that she thought I was ready to test the second time around. The night before the test, Dr. K. sent me such encouraging words and offered to talk on the phone or do whatever I needed to not freak out prior to the test. She even offered to talk to me the morning of the test before going in. I took the test again, got another 265 questions and thought for sure that I failed a second time - however, I did not, I PASSED! Dr. K. talked with me for a half hour after the test and made me feel so amazing. If it weren’t for her, I probably would have spent the night crying. She was the first person I called when I passed the NCLEX. I’m honestly so sad I met her only prior to taking the NCLEX because I would have used her as a tutor throughout nursing school as well. If I ever go back to school in the future, I will absolutely contact Dr. K. again. To be honest, I miss talking to her now that the NCLEX is over. If anyone wants to personally reach out about my experience with Dr. K., I would be happy to chat. I hope this helps other students in their decision to use Dr. K. as a tutor!Ashley, 5 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:
Ashley: Thank you for your kind and very positive review, and for taking the time to offer the details about your experience that will certainly help other students who are looking for a tutor to prepare for NCLEX. I appreciate your comments regarding the support and coaching that I offer as part of my tutoring package, as over the years, this has been something that has been valued by my students as so important in success on this exam--it helps to demystify the process, remind them that they are not alone, and validate their competencies when they often feel so discouraged. My biggest rewards come from seeing my students succeed in their goals--from NCLEX through Graduate level academic work, and in their nursing careers. Tutoring is a vehicle for the passion I have for mentoring nursing professionals, and I stand ready to assist you in any other way as you move forward on what I know will be a very successful journey as a competent and compassionate nurse. Working with highly motivated students such as yourself is a true privilege, and remember to credit yourself for your success most of all. A good coach is helpful, but it is the player(s) that win the game! To your success, Dr. K.
Best NCLEX tutor a student could ask for
I could go on and on about Dr. K. This was my first time taking NCLEX; I was a B average student at college and received testing accommodations for extended testing and also have ADD, for which I take medication for. I completed Kaplan and was doing 75 questions at a time and noticed my scores were sinking lower and lower (averaging at around 40s, very low 50s). I was frustrated, upset and already exhausted. After meeting with Dr. King, everything changed. She encouraged me to receive extended testing for the NCLEX and push it with the BON- which I wouldn't have done had it been for her. We changed my entire studying style, she recognized my test anxiety immediately and recommended that I buy uWorld (also a lifesaver!) and complete 25 questions at a time. She encouraged for me to take lots of breaks and to treat myself a little gift (coffee, a massage) at the end of the week. Once a week, we would meet and go through questions and she taught me little tricks and tips to attack each question that was personalized to help me and my learning style. She provided me with countless resources, my favorite being the NCLEX toolbox but most importantly kept me calm and helped me with my confidence and test anxiety. She somehow had the ability to turn me from a nervous wreck to a confident test taker. She goes above and beyond, sending me encouraging emails and links for test anxiety meditation since she recognized how important that was for me (both which I found extremely helpful). She truly is specific in her help for each student and finds methods specific that work for each student. She helped me pick a test date which alleviated a lot of my anxiety knowing I picking a date based off her expertise. A little over 6 weeks ago, I was an anxious mess who considered a 50 a good score, two days ago I took my NCLEX and passed in 80 questions. She would say it was all me, but I absolutely have no doubt I couldn't have done it without her. Thank you for everything, Dr. K.!Katie, 5 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:
Katie: First and foremost, congratulations on your amazing NCLEX success! Your hard work, courage, consistent independent and focused work, using the plan we generated together---all paid off in a big way for you---as I was confident it would. The combination of each of those elements, together with a passion for nursing and for "doing whatever it takes" to reach your goals, all form a powerful combination that makes success inevitable---not accidental---and you had each of these elements in effective interaction with each other. Your success is a clear demonstration of that! I am genuinely touched by your sincere feedback, and by being able to play even a small role in your success, Katie. Test anxiety is a common challenge for many NCLEX students, but you and I were able to identify ways to use that anxiety as a motivator to focus on an effective study plan, leading to a successful outcome. I know you will contribute much to nursing, Katie! Congratulations once again, and best of luck in what I know will be a very rewarding and successful career, Dr. King
Dr. King was an amazing coach!! She truly gave me the confidence I needed to nail this exam. After taking the NCLEX once and having “delayed success” we created a new study method that helped me the best. I was hesitant about Skyping for tutoring at first but honestly it turned out to be a very efficient way to practice with Dr. King. I sat in a private room in my house on my computer and was very focused throughout each session. Dr. King and I practiced my weak areas and found test taking strategies that worked best for me. I felt very encouraged by her words and was very motivated to do well. Whenever I had questions or felt nervous she was always prompt with a response through text. I truly felt like she cared about my success. After working with her I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions and am very thankful I found her to work with!Kelly, 4 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:
Kelly: Congratulations on your NCLEX success! Yes, you absolutely nailed it, and deservedly so. You worked very hard in implementing the study plan we created together, and your motivation and discipline made NCLEX success inevitable. Thank you for allowing me to support and coach you to success, and for placing your trust in me. I know you will contribute much to nursing, and I wish you the very best in your future career. Dr. King
I panicked as my test date was approaching, so I decided to reach out to Dr. Deborah K. and I honestly think it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Dr. K is extremely helpful! She is encouraging, patient, and non-judgmental. She talked me through to assess my background, my learning style and my struggles when studying for NCLEX. After only one session with her, I changed my studying habit according to her suggestions and I believed that my studying was improved and more effective. She taught me her “strategy toolbox” that can help you as you are practicing NCLEX questions and can work wonders during the exam date. Beside her strategy toolbox, she also sent me a lot of useful resources and information that would help with preparing for NCLEX. I am happy to say I took NCLEX the first time with 90 questions and finished by 2.15 hours, all thanks to God and Dr. K of course. I highly recommend her to anyone who is prepping to take NCLEX.Nikki, 3 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:

Knowledgeable and Supportive NCLEX Tutor
After graduating from an accelerated nursing program in May, I took the NCLEX in August and didn’t pass. I was good student in nursing school and couldn’t wrap my head around why I wasn’t successful with this exam. My confidence was completely gone, I felt defeated and was in a mental hole. I found Dr. K. and scheduled a session, which proved to be one of the best choices in leading me to success on the NCLEX. Dr. K. took the time to understand my background and how I prepared for the NCLEX, which helped me to see what I needed to do differently. She set me up with a bank of thousands of NCLEX questions to practice, gave me guidelines of how many questions to aim for each day and strategies for answering them correctly. Dr. K. was always extremely positive and encouraging during my sessions. It is obvious she loves helping her students find success and would do anything to get them there. I would often text and email Dr. K. with questions or concerns I had. She would promptly respond and did not charge me extra for it, which was a very nice bonus. Throughout my time with Dr. K., I was able to regain the confidence in myself that I had previously lost. Dr. K. would say you had “delayed success” on passing the NCLEX, but success would come. She didn’t put the same label on not passing, as other NCLEX review courses did. Other review courses and tutors I looked into wanted to charge more based on how many times you failed the exam or offered expensive content review classes. Dr. K. is extremely honest and will not make you pay for something you don’t truly need. I highly recommend Dr. K. to anyone struggling with the NCLEX!Hannah , 3 lessons with DeborahTutor responded:
Hannah: Thank you so very much for your enthusiastic and positive feedback about our work together, and congratulations on your NCLEX success! It was a pleasure to work you, and to experience your highly motivated learning style. Together with the plans we identified together, this combination inevitably leads to a very high rate of NCLEX success--which you are a perfect example of. Thank you for your feedback about my approach to tutoring in giving the student full choice over the number and length of tutoring sessions vs. other approaches that may not be as flexible. This not only saves money for students, my experience is that it also leads to the best outcome for the student--so it is a win-win! Best of luck in nursing, Hannah. I know you will contribute much! Dr. K

I was a second time test taker, and Deborah was consistently encouraging and gave me a personal set of test taking strategies, study plans, and lots of practice questions!
