About Deborah

With over 35 years of clinical nursing, teaching, and tutoring experience, as well as holding board certifications in many clinical specialties, I use my qualifications to offer quality tutoring to each and every student I work with--- that is designed to meet the individual needs of each student. As a Master's prepared Clinical Nurse Specialist, who holds a Ph.D. in Human Services Psychology, I have worked with countless learners from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences, learning styles, and individual needs----including challenges with language, learning disabilities, or individuals who are returning to school after many years in the professional world. I have worked with many students who are changing majors or careers, and are challenged with building on prior learning and experience in a subject area that may be totally new to them! I have helped many students through nursing school, and in successfully passing the NCLEX, and have worked with many graduate students on research papers, and in completion of thesis and dissertation work. Many students seek help in the undergraduate/graduate school application process, and I have worked successfully with students to create professional, persuasive essays that present engaging content to strengthen their admission applications. In my tutoring sessions, I bring many years of experience to the table to offer my students every possible advantage, in a relaxed, engaging, and quality atmosphere, that leads to a positive, successful learning experience. Whether you are a high school, undergraduate, graduate, or adult learning student enrolled in continuing education classes, I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to reach your academic goals. I am also available for online tutoring! With over 35 years of clinical nursing, teaching, and tutoring experience, as well as holding board certifications in many clinical specialties, I use my qualifications to offer quality tutoring to each and every student I work with--- that is designed to meet the individual needs of each Read more

Florence is highly motivated for NCLEX success, and reported that she benefited from the strategies we reviewed in our tutoring, including "question dissection!" She was encouraged to continue her independent, NCLEX studying, and suggestions were provided for a study schedule, resources, and approaches to preparing for the exam. She enjoyed the tutoring session, and was encouraged to contact me in the future if I could assist her in any way.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

NCLEX

Experience teaching NCLEX review courses for all levels of learners in a variety of settings, I can help you pass this test!
I have worked successfully with students who have challenges with language, test anxiety, limitations in a specific subject area, and learning disabilities. My approach is to provide tutoring that is highly individualized to your own personal needs, as opposed to the approach in a large, review course classroom, which is tailored to the general NCLEX audience, and not the individual learner.

Nursing

Licensed as a RN for over 35 years, I hold a Master's Degree in Nursing, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. My clinical experience includes critical care, home and community health, mental health, and work with diverse population groups. I have held positions in nursing management, education, case management, and research. I have taught nursing students for many years at both the undergraduate, RN-BSN, and graduate level, and have a strong command of many subject areas. I make learning accessible to each individual learner by assessing their personal needs, and focusing on the objectives of each assignment and the strengths of each student. I have worked with students of all learning and competency levels, including those needing support in areas of language, exam preparation, test taking, writing scholarly papers, and research, and have years of experience teaching in the online classroom environment as well.

Psychology

I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Master's Degree in Nursing, with a specialty focus in the biological basis of human behavior. With over 20 years of clinical practice experience in mental health, I have a diverse background and experience in the application of a variety of mental health treatment models, research, and behavioral medicine. I have taught psychology students at both the undergraduate and graduate level, from a variety of learning backgrounds and educational needs. I have a strong command of the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual determinants of health, which I integrate into my private practice in clinical psychology as well as my tutoring and educational approach.

Huge help in tackling the NCLEX — I had taken the NCLEX once before and when I received my score I decided I would change gears from how I previously studied and get a personal tutor. Dr. K was a huge help in tackling the NCLEX. She assessed my weak and strong points by having me walk through practice questions with her, as well as by talking out what I had noticed on my own. Together we were able to assess how I had studied previ ...
