Hi, I'm Gavin! I'm an enthusiastic and experienced tutor who is eager to help you decode the physics and math of the world around us.

I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with bachelor's degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Astronomy, and I have experience working for NASA and MIT on a component of the Mars Perseverance rover, where I created computational fluid dynamic and thermal simulations. Hi, I'm Gavin! I'm an enthusiastic and experienced tutor who is eager to help you decode the physics and math of the world around us.

I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with bachelor's degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Astronomy, and I have experience working for NASA and MIT on a component of the Mars Perseverance rover, where I created computational fluid dynamic and thermal simulations. I also recently passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam and I am excited to help more students pass this exam and their other courses for Mechanical Engineering, Astronomy, or in basic math or physics!

With experience as the Head Astronomy tutor for the University of Maryland Astronomy department, I want to help more students of all levels learn about science and math. During my 1.5 years of previous remote tutoring experience, I learned how to effectively and virtually present information to college students. The courses I have recently tutored at the University of Maryland are Introductory Astrophysics - Solar System and Introductory Astrophysics II - Stars and Beyond (mainly MATLAB Coding data analysis). However, my interest in teaching began in high school when I worked as a swim coach and private lesson instructor for over 3 years. I'm excited to help new students discover a passion for math and science like I did, and I hope you'll give me a chance!

I was able to have a better understanding circular patterns. I was also able to understand planes and making drawings on the planes. Be able to use different cuts and extrusions to make the tubing and circles.

I was able to learn how to play around with Solidworks using different methods in order to get what I needed. Gavin was able to teach me about linear patterns and how to go about them in different ways. Understanding how to make different extrusions helped me better understand how to set myself up for success.

Excellent Tutor for Physics, Fluids, and All Things Mechanical Engineering

A masterful, kind, and adaptable tutor at an unbelievable rate. Gavin helped me refresh on fluid mechanics, methods of modeling fluid flow, and associated calculations. This lesson was a broth full of brainstorming, rapid ideation, CAD/CAM design, and equation derivation and simplification. I now feel equipped to design around real-world fluid flow parameters. Very grateful for this encounter!
