Teaching English for almost 8 years back in Turkey, I am interested in metacognition and affective factors. I strongly believe that motivation, interest, and self-efficacy play a significant role in learning. Because of this, I not only help my students learn cognitive strategies, but I also help them develop their self-esteem, become more self-conscious, and goal-oriented. I value the "whole child." I know learning is an individualized process, because of this at first I help the person to find out what and why s/he wants to learn. Without a vivid purpose, unfortunately the process might turn out to be memorization rather than learning.
As a guide and a facilitator, my purpose is to initiate life-long independence and confidence.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching English as a foreign language since 2006 and preparing students for TOEFL since 2008. Although it may seem to be language learning, because of the skills to be mastered, at first I had to integrate study skills, like management of time, organization, planning, and evaluation of one's own performance, into my courses. As a PhD student, I'm deeply interested in meta-cognition and cognitive strategies to increase performance. As a speed reader trainer, I care about reading a lot, since most academic tasks require reading. As long as one can read properly, the rest depends on the one's proficiency in the content knowledge.
I am a native speaker of Turkish. I have translated medical texts into English from Turkish.
