Drexel University (Mathematics)
University of Maryland (PhD)
Hello, I am currently a mathematics graduate student at University of Maryland. I love to teach and have experience as a TA in differential equations, linear algebra, and calculus. As an undergrad, I worked as a tutor in many other subjects including, but not limited to, pre-calculus, calculus, probability, statistics, discreet math, multi-variable calculus, and various other basic and advanced subjects.
When I work with students I like to be in contact with them before each meeting to set up a comprehensive plan for what we would like to achieve. My style is very problem solving oriented. I like to explain the concepts briefly but then explain again through examples. I hope that after each session the students I work with will not only have a better understanding of the concepts covered but also of how to use these concepts to solve problems.
I received a perfect score on the math section for both the SAT and GRE and passed the first actuarial exam. I love trying to help others understand mathematics the way I do so that it can be easy and fun to them. Hello, I am currently a mathematics graduate student at University of Maryland. $45 is the standard rate. I do not have a car to travel, so if you require traveling I may increase the rate based on distance. Group rates can vary based on location and subject.
My daughter felt a lot more confident and knowledgeable about her math class after Sean’s tutoring. She enjoyed the session. I would recommend Sean as a tutor for my other children. He will be the first choice for my daughter’s math lessons.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have not taken the ACT but know all of the material contained. I received a perfect score on my SAT subject test in Mathematics and a perfect score on the quantitative section of the GRE. I am well versed in not only the material but in mathematics test-taking skills.
I have passed the first actuarial exam 4 years ago with a score of 10/10. I have done tutoring in probability and financial math since.
My first term of graduate studies at the University of Maryland I was lucky enough to be a TA for differential equations. I know this subject material very well. I love teaching this material to students since the geometric applications can be visually stunning and, if done well, can keep the student motivated and interested in the material. This was one class that I taught where the material did much of the work and as I drew graphs and solutions curves they would watch the material unfold in amazement.
I have a lot of experience tutoring Discrete Math. Set and Probability Theory are extremely familiar to me since I have studied it to pass the actuarial exams. I have learned and tutored additional discreet math topics in my undergraduate career including but not limited to graph theory, proofs, basic number theory and even some basic Combinatorics.
As a graduate student at the University of Maryland I have been the teaching assistant for Linear Algebra and have been in the position of explaining each and every concept from the material and answering questions to help my students better understand the material. Linear Algebra is one of my favorite subjects to tutor since it is used so often as a base of higher mathematics.
I received a perfect score on both the Math subject text on SAT and the Quantitative section of the GRE.
