In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I believe I am qualified to tutor K-3. I've taught kindergarten in a parochial school for 9 years. I have also been trained to use the Orton-Gillingham method to teach reading.
I received a tutoring request for help with a 2nd grader and this site tells me I must be approved. This is the first time this has come up. I've been approved for Grammar, Phonics, Reading, and Vocabulary. I think I am more than qualified to tutor a 2nd grader that needs general help.
