About Ffyona

Hi there! My name is Ffyona, and I'm a 2007 Harvard College graduate and 2014 Yale University graduate currently working in the international development field. I have over 10 years of experience tutoring and teaching students grades K-12, largely in college test preparation but also in general studies, organization, and college readiness. I am enthusiastic about education, love to work with young people, and hope that my work as a tutor can help propel the next generation of American thinkers into the world with confidence, conscientiousness, and the ability to think critically and analytically.

My tutoring methods involve goal-setting, thinking strategically through questions and answer choices, and generating results through a confidence-boosting, fun approach to learning rather dry material. I pride myself on being flexible to meet a student's particular needs (including ADHD, processing challenges, and learning disabilities), and I can't wait to help you meet your goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

From college preparation to job and fellowship applications to interview preparation, I enjoy helping students and young professionals expand their horizons and reach their full potential. As a first-generation graduate of Harvard and Yale universities, I have been afforded ample exposure opportunities to admissions committee insights, application requirements, and preparation strategies. I have sat on admissions and fellowship applicant review panels and have served as an internship recruiter for a former employer, giving me and insider perspective on what aspects of the resume, application, and interview allow candidates to shine. I welcome the opportunity to help you excel in your endeavors in my spare time. Let's work together to reach your goals!

College Counseling

With over 10 years' experience volunteering and working as a college preparation teacher/ tutor, I enjoy helping students see their college dreams come to fruition. As a first-generation college graduate of Harvard and Yale universities, demystifying the college process and expanding the pipeline to higher-level education are important to me. I spent Summer 2004 working in the Harvard College admissions office as an Undergraduate Minority Recruitment Program recruitment assistant and look forward to breaking down what college admissions teams look for in a college candidate. Let's work together to reach your goals!
