Hi, I'm Noah! I have over 5 years of professional experience as a math and physics tutor. I've worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, but now focus primarily on those in high school, college, and continuing education. I hold a B.S. in Physics from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Maryland. In addition to my years tutoring, I've lectured and TA-ed courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

I view tutoring as an effective supplement to in-class lectures, online coursework, etc. rather than as a substitute. Because we're working one-on-one, I can focus on engaging students in active learning, which is often missing in those other educational contexts. I'll help break down confusing topics into smaller, more manageable chunks tailored specifically for each student.

I focus on instilling independence and confidence in those I tutor: I've encountered many new students that come to me feeling helpless, like they just can't get their head around some topic or that a class is just impossible. I work hard to break down those walls and empower my students to help themselves by adapting the pace of the learning and simplifying things to the point where the students can work through them.

When tutoring, I strive not just to rehash information presented in class or a textbook; instead, I also focus on designing problem-solving techniques and study strategies for each individual student. These skills, while just as essential to academic success, are often neglected in a classroom setting, and students are otherwise expected to figure them out on their own.

If you're at all interested in employing my services, you can send me a message to set up a free consultation. I'm always easy to reach and respond promptly.

I look forward to meeting you!

Mathematica

As a physicist, I used Mathematica frequently and comprehensively. Not only have I used the program extensively, but I have also had to teach more junior scientists how to use it effectively. Some specific examples of work I've done (available upon request) include: - Carrying out perturbative calculations involving hundreds of terms - Data analysis and visualization - Analytical and numerical PDE solving at high-precision - Package development

The best linear algebra teacher a guy could ask for!

Noah designs lesson plans, helps me solve tricky problems, and creates beautiful problem sets and lecture notes. He is very patient and understanding. Thanks for all you hard work Noah!

Best tutoring experience I've had on Wyzant.

To set the scene, I'm an almost 35-year-old that hasn't taken a math class in close to a decade. I went back to school for Computer Science and had to take three high-level math classes. While I managed to make it through Discrete Math and Applied Calculus I fell into a hole with early with Applied Linear Algebra. I immediately went looking for a tutor and Noah reached out to me once I activated a search for Linear Algebra. Noah walked me through each concept that we were present with each week, making sure that I understood the concept from the ground up. He constantly challenged me, making sure to go over each problem more than once, ensuring that my understanding of each topic was solid. I'm not saying that I'll be working on my Doctorate in Applied Mathematics anytime soon, but Noah managed to save a sinking ship and while my goal was just to get a D and skate by, I managed to get a low B. I cannot emphasize how great of a tutor Noah is. I'm not sure what other topics Noah covers, but if you need help with any subject he specializes in, I cannot recommend him enough. 10/5 stars.

Very knowledgable and good tutor

I have a unique situation with my last trimester of advance physics where the topics are college level and its not a tradition style where i need the topic explained and practiced for a test. Yet, Noah is able to modify his style to fit my needs and help guide my research and project related presentation. I am very impressed.

Patient & broke topic down into understandable concepts

Noah helped my son by breaking down calculus theory into understandable concepts & steps. He was also very patient. Thank you Noah.

Great tutor

Really helpful. Did a wonderful job in helping understand Physics. I had two tutor sessions with him. When I didn't understand a certain part of a problem, he explains to me.

Collisions and Momentum

I really liked the structure of Noah's review. He let me dictate how I wanted the lesson to go and it went exactly like how I wanted it to. He went at the pace that was best for me.

Kind and experienced tutor

I've had Noah help me with a fairly abstract class involving introductory wave mechanics and relativity. His patience and calm demeanor in letting students navigate the problems combined with the expertise in the subject is a valuable combination for anyone seeking extra help in their classes.
