About Dr. John

I realized the power of learning at an early age. One of eleven children in 625 sq.feet of space, I knew that knowledge and wisdom were the tickets to a new life. Learning opened the world to me to become a doctor and a lawyer and be whatever I dreamed.

Since then, I have taught to everyone anything I knew. I have taught 5,000 clients they could change their lives. I have taught over 7,000 students how to think and use their minds. Most recently, I tutored a special needs student, taking her from a non-functioning category to the honor roll in just 4 months. She is the best work of my life.

I understand that for many students the next step in the process seems difficult. I will teach you it is not difficult, but simply new and exciting. You will grow from the insecurity of needing a co-pilot, to enjoying your own explorations and possibilities.

I am in awe still today of the power of the written and spoken language. I have made a living being a wordsmith.

I have been involved with computers my entire life. I am certified as an online teacher. I pioneered Web CT at Georgia State University. I was the featured panelist at the 1st WebCT International Conference in 2000, and presented a paper entitled "Growing Culture in Cyberspace."

I have a PhD in Sociology, and have taught 100 courses at the university level.

I would love to share with you my passion for knowledge, and the wisdom that comes from it and from life. You will enjoy the journey.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have 30 years experience teaching over 3000 students at the university level. These students had a range of abilities and backgrounds. I have recently tutored two nieces and a nephew with varying degrees of autism. My 8 year old niece moved from special needs functioning to honor roll in two months as a result of my tutoring last semester.

Criminal Justice

I have a Ph.D. in sociology and have been a professor of criminal justice as well as taught Deviant Behavior at least ten times. I have been a lawyer for over 30 years and handled thousands of criminal cases. I have also taught Law and Society at least ten times. In addition I have taught approximately 70 other courses relating to criminal justice.

Political Science

I have a J.D. in law and and a Ph.D. in Sociology. I have taught sections on power and government approximately 90 times. I have taught Law and Society 15 times. I have written academic articles on the politics of law and the criminal justice system. I have also taught theories of crime and studied political theory for doctorate.

Religion

I graduated from a Roman Catholic seminary and received Jesuit training for 16 years prior to that. I have read the bible many times and twice in Greek. I have read the sacred literature of the Christian, jewish, muslim, hindu and buddist traditions. I have also taught the sociology of religion at the university level.

Social Studies

I have a Ph.D. in Sociology and a J.D. in jurisprudence. My teaching experience is at eight different universities where I have taught approximately 100 different courses. These courses include teaching Introduction to Sociology over 30 times, Social Problems, Deviant Behavior, Social Theory, Criminology, Constitutional Law, Agency and Partnerships, Torts, and Sociology of Art. I use a variation of the Socratic method which I learned from a Jesuit training and which was used in law school. It is very interactive and emphasizing most learning through question and answer between the professor and student.

Sociology

I have a Ph.D. in Sociology and have taught approximately 100 courses at the University level. Subjects taught include Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Criminology, Social Theory, Theories of Criminology, Social Problems, Deviant Behavior, Law and Society and Constitutional Law.
