About Jennifer

Hello there! My name is Jennifer and I'm happy you stopped by. I specialize in tutoring students in writing and public speaking. I would love to get to know you and learn about your goals for improving these skills with advice, practice, and feedback. My goal is to help guide you through the process of crafting excellent papers and presentations so that you excel on your current projects and the projects you have in the future!

I received a Bachelor's Degree in Family and Community Sciences in 2008 and a Master's Degree in Social Work in 2010. I have had nearly 10 years of experience providing direct social work services to families, speaking in front of large audiences, and creating reports and presentations. I love the process of researching, learning, and communicating ideas in effective ways. I have provided editing and writing coaching for the past 15 years for elementary through graduate school students, and have provided "training for trainers" for the past four years. My tutoring style is to build up your confidence by giving supportive feedback, building in lots of opportunity to practice, setting clear goals, and providing constructive criticism on your performance.

I understand how nerve-wracking it can be to write a paper, speak in public, or give a presentation. As a trained social worker, I can help give you the confidence you need in a supportive and helpful way. However, as an experienced writer and public speaker, I know what your audience will often be expecting. I'll be critique your work and make sure you exceed expectations. As a trainer, I've had lots of experience coaching and mentoring others in sociology, public speaking, and writing, so I know that every learner is different. I will work with you to ensure that my teaching method matches up to the best way for you to learn.

If you are interested in learning more about non-profit management, I can help you there as well! I have worked for almost four years in human services administration, and would love to help you understand more about non-profit management and business principles. My specialties in this area include quality improvement, project management, policy development and implementation, and employee training best practices. I have coached and mentored in this field for the past three years for graduate level students.

I am available to travel to a location of your preference or for on-line sessions. I have flexible availability throughout the week. Please message me if you are interested in learning more!

Very patient and helpful — She helped give me some pointers regarding how to change up my speaking voice a bit to be a more effective public speaker. Her advice was practical and immediately demonstrable in conversation with her. She was able to reword suggestions and come at problems from different angles to get the suggestions across. ...
