As a writer, an avid reader, and a nascent ivory tower academic, I have a deep, ridiculous affection for knowledge. I've never imagined myself doing anything other than finding ways to learn more things and impart that knowledge to others. That's what I do when I write, it's what I hope to do when I teach, and it's what I do now as a tutor.

I'm not someone who tries to make learning fun. If you're actually learning, it's going to be fun; you're hardwired for it. The same thing goes for teaching and tutoring. One of my favorite memories from high school is the moment when, after helping another girl with a chemistry worksheet, she told me "Now that I get this. I want to do the rest of this on my own." She looked so proud and happy. She wasn't typically one of the "smart" girls, and I could tell that her newfound sense of mastery over the material was a huge deal for her. I want to help more students have moments like that.

I'm a writer by training, trade, and vocation. If I were ever elected president, I would be sworn in on a copy of The Elements of Style. My writing workshops in college and graduate school have given me an almost inhumanly good instinct for grammar. I love words and the flexibility of communication that comes with an expanded vocabulary. I also have extensive training in different modes of literary analysis, and I have a knack for connecting students' intuitive understanding of what's going on in a text to more formal and structured ways of expressing that understanding in academic writing.
