Prince George's Community College (Public Health)
My name is Amani, and I am college student that loves to work one on one with students as a tutor. I personally have a passion for reading and writing and am currently seeking my degree in the field of Public Health. My prior experience includes a job with the state program America Reads America Counts*, which sends trained college students to work one on one twice a week with first and second grade students on improving their overall reading and writing abilities using individualized student lesson plans and curriculum. I enjoyed the job and was proud to have greatly improved my students reading and writing grades in class as well as to have helped them to foster a love of reading and writing. I also have experience as an after school mentor with the local community center working with elementary and middle school aged students in a variety of subjects including math, English, science, public speaking and some history. My most recent job was working as a before and after care assistant with Prince George's County Schools in which I worked with elementary aged students from age four through twelve in a range of subjects through one on one learning using adapted supplemental curriculum individualized for each students grade and subject matter. I really enjoy being able to help other students improve their understanding of difficult subjects and found tutoring to be a positive tool that proved valuable in my high level of success as a straight A student in both High School and so far in College. I look forward to working with all potential students and hope to provide and fun and enjoyable way of improving my students understanding of difficult subject areas that I can provide assistance.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a vast degree of experience with elementary science. My experience mostly came from creating themed elementary science based activities that helped students to learn material while also remaining engaged through useful games, trivia and art activities. I find that using activities that creatively teach science help to make it easier to learn and less tedious on both the student and mentor.
