Hello,

I am an information technology professional who also conducts tutoring and teaches as an adjunct math professor during my off-hour time.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and a Master's Degree in Operations Research. I have the pleasure of being a Mathematics adjunct professor, teaching college coursework in calculus/pre-calculus , Algebra I/II, probability/statistics, quantitative analysis, finite and business math.

I have substantive Wyzant experience tutoring students ages 8 - 55. I am a very patient instructor with an easy going, professional demeanor. I do not feel professionally satisfied unless my students fully internalize the subject matter at hand. I do my best work in a 1:1 setting.

I have previously taught Math courses at College of Southern Nevada and ITT Technical as well as served as an on-line adjunct with University of Phoenix and Le Cordon Bleu.

I am currently on staff to teach at various math and statistics courses locally at Marymount and Stevenson University, Northern Virginia and Prince Georges County Community Colleges.

I am also a retired Navy Captain (O-6), returning back to the DMV after a two year stint in Houston and 10 years in Las Vegas.

Regards and Best

Alvin

Proactive, Flexible, Expert tutor

Alvin clearly takes tutoring very seriously. He reviewed the information and syllabus I sent him before hand and even brought some of his own resources for me to review to supplement my own materials. This allowed us to use the time we had excellently because he knew exactly where I was and what was needed. He's flexible and easy to work with for sure. After my session, I felt more confident about my studies. In short, I feel really fortunate that I lucked up enough to find such a professional, knowledgeable, and flexible tutor that really seems to care about how well I do in my class. This isn't just any class - its a PhD level class. When I need extra help and support with statistics and SPSS in the future, he'll be the tutor I reach out too. He knows his stuff!

Quite Good

Alvin helped me with a recent Discrete Mathematics course. With his assistance I got an A+ in the course. I found his assistance effective and I have asked him for help with a statistics course this coming semester.

Efficient tutor - quickly narrowed in on problem areas

Alvin did a great job with our son. He showed a super talent to connect quickly to make the subject material much more understandable. In two short sessions, we saw a significant improvement in our son's performance.

Great Tutor

Alvin is a superior tutor. He very quickly made an impact with our daughter as her grades improved significantly. Alvin's easy going nature, professionalism, and mathematics acumen sharpened our daughter's academic focus in her geometry/trigonometry coursework. We thank you!

Awesome!

Mr. Alvin is a awesome tutor. He was a perfect fit for my son. He was very patient and was able to brake the Geometry down for my son to have a clear understanding of the material. My son liked Mr. Alvin so much that he was asking for him to come instead of me asking my son if the tutor was needed. Mr. Alvin was able to move my son through the difficult unit of study and my son's grade went up by two letters. Awesome! I am so happy and pleased with Mr. Alvin and will use him again for the next difficult unit of study we may encounter.

The BEST

Alvin was so great in helping me prepare for the Statistics Competency Exam. He clearly knows his statistics, is a very patient teacher, and is a kind and gentle person. I highly recommend Alvin for anyone who may not be so confident in their knowledge or ability to absorb statistics. He has a way of making it easy. Thank you Alvin so very much. You are the BEST.
