About Jen

I have been tutoring and helping families for the past 14 years. I have also worked in two of the finest Special Ed schools for children with learning disabilities! The first school was The Lab School of Washington and the other was The Summit School. My passion is to teach reading to all ages and working with families guiding and implementing positive parenting skills! I use a hands on, multisensory approach to learning to make tutoring fun for all ages. I believe all children should be guided to their fullest potential in a fun and safe environment! I have extensive training and certification in Orton - Gillingham, Phonographix, Linda-mood Belle, Montessori Certification Pre-K- Upper Elementary, ABA Therapy, Floor Time therapy, Sensory Integration Disorder, Nutritional and Supplement Diet Intervention, Positive Parenting/ STEP Program (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting)and more.

I enjoy working with families and children to identify any learning difficulties and implement early intervention goals and strategies to enable the child to be a confident and successful learner! I do not believe there is one program that must be used to teach any skill or lesson, as teachers we must be well equipped, having a strong background in many types of approaches so that we can meet each students unique styles of learning! I believe the child's self esteem is equally important to that of any academics. I believe in teachable moments, creativity and using the child's interest to get a lesson or point across! If children feel safe and trust their teachers/guides they can and will succeed to their fullest potential!I look forward to meeting you and your child and guiding them to a desire to love to learn!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
