About Kiana

Bio

I have been teaching and tutoring various subjects for a decade, from music to math to English, to students of all ages (elementary school to adult).

While I taught piano in the earlier years of my life, I have since then also tutored math and science to kids, as well as English to students in Japan and adults from all over the world.

My degree in Psychology has also helped me further understand what methods and techniques are best for learning and memory.

My personal belief is that every student is capable of learning and understanding anything. My key to helping others acquire new knowledge is my patience and ability to understand how the individual student thinks: these necessary elements allow for me to find the best way to explain or help a student deeply understand any given concept, no matter how simple or complex.

I hold a B.S. in Mathematics and Psychology from the College of William & Mary, and have over a decade's worth of experience in practicing algebra and understanding how it works. In college, I have also taken such courses such as Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations; as well as Complex Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Combinatorics, and various levels of Calculus.
I am absolutely confident that each and every student is more than capable of not only understanding how algebra works, but also growing comfortable with it.

In 2019, I received my Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA - previously "Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults"). As part of the process, I planned and designed English lessons using self-designed and adapted materials, implementing frameworks approved by the University of Cambridge. I taught both pre- and upper-intermediate multinational classes of 8-18 adult students; and I also designed lesson plans and materials for one-on-one tutoring lessons.

In addition, I studied Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) at the Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies in Nagasa
