I have directed a medical research program for the past 10 years where I train students individually at all levels (high school through MD/PhD students). My research mentoring comprises personalized one-on-one interactions to teach textbook principles, research project development and experimentation, and research writing. I have tutored dozens of students through MCAT subjects where I can explain the scientific concepts but also provide test taking tips to improve your score.

I draw on nearly 20 years of research experience to provide concrete examples of concepts that can be difficult to grasp when reading the textbook. I am patient and understand different people learn in different ways. I can present and discuss scientific concepts from many different angles to help you understand in the way that you learn best.

I have extensive experience mentoring in MCAT subjects with my tutoring specialties being in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, and chemistry (general chemistry and physical chemistry), pharmacology and genetics.

Whether you're looking to improve your MCAT score, pass a test, or just learn more about science, I'm eager to help you out. I look forward to hearing from you!

Lesson review

We reviewed a chapter from my class, and went over a problem from my teacher. He was a great help for helping me understand the things that I had previously had a hard time understanding.

Scott has been truly exceptional

I am in a graduate epidemiology program, and Scott helped me in a public health genetics course. Scott is patient and so helpful with all study details. I found him on Wyzant mid- semester, and if it weren’t for him, I might have dropped this class. I’m so glad I didn’t, as it turned out to be one of the most interesting classes I’ve taken so far. Scott helped me prepare for my weekly quizzes, scientific paper discussions, midterm/ final exam preparations, and was immensely helpful with my final project power point presentation. Scott helped me understand detailed genetic concepts- He responded quickly to any questions I had on my material and provided the confidence that I could master this difficult course. I’ve worked with many great Wyzant tutors, and Scott has been truly exceptional. I plan to work with him in the future, as I’ve decided to make my study concentration molecular epidemiology. Thank you, Scott!

Amazing Biochemistry tutor

Scott saved me in my biochemistry class. The problems and questions never made sense to me and he was able to break down the concepts that I needed to know to answer the questions. I felt very comfortable taking lessons with Scott. He is incredibly kind, patient, and non-judgemental about what I didn't know. He was really supportive and able to break down things in ways that were easy for me to understand. I totally recommend Scott if you are struggling with Biochem or want to get ahead in your class!!

Scott is thorough

I like that Scott is thorough in his review of the slides that I have presented from my teacher. The material I have is very dense, and though it may take multiple sessions to review the lecture slides, Scott has been good about getting in a thorough review rather than rushing thorough them as he could do.

Very Good... You get what you pay for and it was well worth it.

He is a bit pricy, but he was WAY better than the $45 hour professor I hired. He explained hydrogen better than most professors and wasn't too analytical. I need to close escrow on a few homes before I hire him again.

Highly recommend!

If you’re looking for a tutor that makes learning easier no matter what learning style you have, and creates a comfortable yet focused environment, Scott is your guy! When I found Scott, I was failing genetics…he immediately knew the level of help I needed, and he never came up short of giving me 100% effort. Scott took time to work with me whenever I needed his help, even if that meant meeting multiple times a week and fitting me in his busy schedule. His friendly and understanding nature allowed me to be comfortable in telling him what I didn’t understand about genetics – it was a judge-free zone for every lesson! He took his time explaining concepts, pulling examples and demonstrations from past experiences and studies that he was familiar with to help my style of learning. He also spent time outside of our lessons to do research to further help me understand certain concepts in genetics if I was struggling with them. Scott is encouraging, determined, and he is flexible with not only scheduling but learning as well. He was my tutor for two genetics exams (majority of the semester) and when I decided to try different learning techniques during our lessons or if I had any suggestions, he was quick to support me and do his very best in helping me in any way he could to ensure my success. Thanks to Scott I was able to bring my grade up from a failing grade to pass the class. I highly recommend him!

Review of a scientific manuscript

We reviewed a complex manuscipt. Scott was very able to readily explain and explicate difficult concepts and make them easily understandable. I would recomend hias a first rate tutor for molecular biology and genetics.

Patient, Caring, and Fun

Scott was very easy to talk to and always had some great explanations and examples for the questions I had with my Intro to Biology college course. He made sure I had a solid understanding of each question by utilizing the whiteboards, diagrams, and many real world examples. As a woman meeting with an unknown male tutor 1:1 can feel stressful or worrisome, but Scott made me feel comfortable and safe in the environment. I had no problem asking questions or interrupting. I will be back. Thank You Scott!

Very knowledgeable, invested in his students

Scott is a fantastic tutor who is incredibly knowledgeable in science and invested in those he tutors. I don't think I would have passed advanced pathophysiology if it weren't for Scott!
