About Akeeka

Hello all; I am a active duty United States Navy Nurse currently stationed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. I have been in the military since the age of 17 with 22 years of service to our great nation and still currently serving on active duty! I truly enjoy helping others succeed and I have dedicated my life to doing just that. Within my 22 years of service I have tutored and helped many of my sailors with college /study preparation as they strive to advance through the ranks. I have helped my sailors get scholarships for higher education, I spearheaded a NCLEX tutoring program at my Alma Mater Gwynedd-Mercy University. As a result students were able to successfully pass their classes and pass their NCLEX exam during the first attempt. I am truly my most happiest when I am helping others; I have always been dedicated to many causes that is greater than myself. I truly believe that we as human beings are truly blessed with gifts and where others are weak we should reach out and make them strong by helping other achieve their dreams and goals. I have numerous years of expertise with test-prep strategies for the NCLEX exam; College-Selection processes; scholarship-grant writing; to include many other subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology and Biology.

I have 2 undergraduate Degrees- I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing- Minor 1- Psychology/ Minor 2- Human Biology.
Bachelor of Science in Health Care Services. I also hold a Masters in Business Administration and have been published several times over the last 10 years. My current research publication focused on Cardiac Bio-markers. I am currently enrolled as a Masters Student to become a Family Nurse Practitioner at Simmons College.

I have assisted numerous students with test preparation at Gwynedd-Mercy University in efforts to prepare them for their NCLEX Exam. I have taught test-preparation classes for the my sailors in the military in efforts to help them prepare for their advancement exam. I am truly a person of great resources and I want to take that information and share it with my future students.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a Master's in Business Administration. I hold 2 Bachelor's Degrees -and graduated with a Double Minor with my Nursing Degree. I was a former Logistics Specialist with the United States Navy- which focused on Business as well holding the position as the leading financial Specialist managing a budget of 1 million plus dollars. I am the recipient of 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for the successful management of financial systems as well as managing the HAZMAT department at Naval Air Station Willow Grove Pennsylvania. I was selected to be the Student speaker of my MBA program graduation.

Career Development

I am the recipient of 4 degrees/I currently have 22 years to current in the United States Navy to current. I am a Commissioned Naval Officer deemed by Congress and the United States of America. I am a United States Navy Career Counselor and have the certification to back it up. I was also awarded the U.S. Navy Career Counselor pin. I am a Registered Nurse with my BSN/RN license. I have minored in Psychology and Human Biology under my Bachelor of Science Degree. I hold numerous certifications in Pacu-Nursing-Moderate Sedation Practices, Advance Cardiac Life Support Certified/BLS Certified just to name a few.

Marketing

I have an MBA from University of Phoenix which heavily focused on Marketing. My second undergraduate degree which is a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Services also focused on Marketing as well. I served on the Board of Directors with the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania; while there I assisted colleagues with marketing the organization's brand and had the opportunity to serve 2 terms while in office. I currently serve as the Student Liaison for Simmons College School of Health Sciences-Graduate Studies -which is sponsored by the Graduate Student Nurses Academy-American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Serving in this leadership role focuses on marketing the organization's brand by getting other qualified students and colleagues involved in the great work that the organization is involved with.

NCLEX

I am a Active Duty Navy Nurse and helping people is my passion!!! I have a special place in my heart for seeing students succeed in passing the NCLEX! I can help you PASS the test and become a SUCCESSFUL REGISTERED NURSE! I want to pay it forward and see other people succeed; I am my most happiest see others bring their dreams and goals to fruition. I started the NCLEX Club at Gwynedd-Mercy University-My Alma Mater and it still exists today!

Nutrition

I am a Registered Nurse - nutrition is a large part of our curriculum pertaining to collegiate studies. I was recently published in the online Journal of Clinical Cardiology. My research focused on Nutritional Bio-Markers in efforts to prevail against Hypertension and Heart Disease. My research was also selected for Poster and Podium Presentation for the University of Uniformed Services University. In addition to my Bachelor's in Nursing, I also have a Bachelor's in Health Care Administration and the course curriculum required over 6 credit hours of Nutritional studies as well. As a registered nurse I apply nutritional practices and application to my everyday field of work. I am charged with that duty as a Registered Nurse and so the focus of healthy practices regarding nutrition is always at the forefront of my day to day practice.

Pharmacology

Advanced skills in Pharmacology are required to be a Registered Nurse. As an NCLEX Prep tutor Pharmacology is already a part of the curriculum. I am certified in Moderate Sedation Practices with over 1,000 hours of clinical practice hours from Walter Reed Military Medical Center. By trade I am a Perianesthesia Nurse at Penn State Hershey Medical Center as well. Pharmacology is a part of my everyday practice. I am currently studying to become an Advanced Practice-Family Nurse Practitioner and have completed 1 year of coursework in Pharmacological studies at Simmons College and the University of Kentucky as well.

Public Speaking

I have been in public speaking for over 10 years to current. I have held numerous leadership roles that required me to give speeches and have presented over 20 lectures in front of large audiences. I was selected to be the student speaker of my Master's Degree program at the University of Phoenix. I teach Team-Steps for the military-A nationally recognized safety program that focuses on reduction of medical errors within large organizations. I have recently been selected to teach a program called Culture Care- A Steven Covey program that focuses on enhancement of communication skills within large organizations. I am a nationally published author with my abstract released in August of 2015-Clinical Cardiology "Accepted your submission."
My scientific work also was selected to present for a poster and podium talk- sponsored by the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.

Sociology

Sociology is the scientific study of social behavior or society, including its origins, development, organization, networks, and institutions. It is a social science that uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about social order, social disorder and social change.
With that being said- my minors in Psychology and Human Biology have equipped me with over 30 credit hours of study in the field of Sociology. I have four degrees with an extensive background in the social sciences. I am the recipient of various awards that document my involvement within the field of Sociology. Awards are as follows- Jamie Thiel Memorial Legislative Award-2010-2011. Source-Pennsylvania Student Nurses Association. Leadership Award- Gwynedd Mercy University-2011. Board of Directors for the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania- 2011-2012.
