Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

ADD/ADHD related therapy requires specific structured activities, mindfulness strategies, impulse control methods and positive reinforcements.

ADD/ADHD can be a challenge at work, school, and being present while in general company.

I have six years of working with ADD/ADHD patients and clients, including two years at Johns Hopkins Hospital Pediatric Psychiatry where we enforced PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program. I can work with you to tackle specific obstacles when enduring attention related, boredom related, or hyperactivity related challenges.

Aspergers

I have worked with clients and patients with Aspergers, PDD and Autism spectrum disorder for six years while working in various capacities in mental health.

Social cues and relationships are a frustrating challenge for individuals who are on the spectrum of high functioning autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or Aspergers.

Using positive reinforcements combined with social cues role playing, abstract to concrete thinking activities, anger management skills, and brainstorming healthy social activities will allow for functional improvement.

Career Development

I have worked with clients who required vocational counseling. They needed both the motivation to go out and look for jobs and the strategy to create and build a resume.

I have worked with clients, mentoring them in the following areas: finding jobs, writing a resume and cover letter, managing stress, working with others, healthy strategies to impress a boss or supervisor, discovering and building upon one's own strengths, talents and interests.

Special Needs

I have worked with individuals with a variety of special needs challenges including ADD/ADHD, ODD, depression, anxiety, and autism.

I have administered effective therapeutic groups and worked one on one with individuals who have these special needs challenges giving them the tools to grow and develop in school, at work and in life.

Study Skills

I have worked with clients tutoring them in the following areas: motivation to pursue continuing education, managing school and work simultaneouly, daily motivation and check ups, helping students study, effective studying strategies, finding the best teachers and professors to suit their need; finding academic assistance and programs at school as needed.

I have specifically worked with students with ADD/ADHD who have challenges when it comes to paying attention while reading, paying attention in class, etc. Taking breaks, positive reinforcement, mindfulness, and structure are some strategies among others I have used to help students succeed.
