About Jason

I mostly tutor undergraduates, working professionals and graduate students in various business courses - primarily finance, statistics, accounting and financial modeling, but also linear optimization, management science, strategic management (including Glo-Bus) and sometimes microeconomics. Additionally, I also tutor some courses from MS in Finance and Applied Economics programs, such as econometrics, intermediate financial theory, cost-benefit analysis, financial economics, etc. Last, I help students prepare for the CFA Level I and Financial Risk Manager exams, as well as the math portion of the GMAT.

I do financial and mathematical modeling in excel for my consulting job, including the use of data analysis, solver, Decision Tool Suite (@RISK) and Crystal Ball. As needed, I proctor exams for students when they have difficulty finding an appropriate location or facility to take exams at. I have a BS in Aerospace Engineering, an MBA in Finance and a Master's in Public Policy.

I have a very flexible schedule. I have availability on most days, including Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I travel and, if you're far, I'll meet you half way, so I don't expect you to come to me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

My experience is two-fold. First, I have an MBA in Finance from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, as well as a masters in public policy. This allows me to help students with both the fundamental business courses, in addition to the policy, normative and regulatory impacts on business. Second, I have my own business, so I am proficient at creating business plans, pro forma financial statements, market research and the little headaches that accompany starting and running a business.

CFA

I work as management consultant for utilities, conducting financial analyses, bond feasibility studies for debt issuance and building financial models, as well as strategic planning and benchmarking. I passed the CFA Level I exam on the first attempt. In the meantime, I tutor financial accounting, managerial accounting, statistics and various finance courses through WyzAnt.

Finance

I conduct various types of financial analysis in management consulting, but the primary efforts are in utility valuation, cost of service studies, life cycle cost analysis and Monte Carlo analysis. I help students with corporate finance, investments, fixed income, derivatives, and valuation using Excel, @RISK and Crystal Ball.

Financial Accounting

I have been working as a management consultant for 20 years and have worked with fixed asset accounting systems, discretizing multimillion dollar projects into individual assets, as well as producing journal entries for the accounting staff of various clients. I tutor undergraduate and MBA financial and managerial accounting.

General Computer

While my background is in management consulting, one of my other duties as assigned was in building or enhancing PCs for my office. I trained project managers on new software and, in some cases, older software that they never really used. I'm comfortable teaching people how to use computers from a blank slate and have the requisite patience required to teach people new skills, as well as cater the approach to their learning strengths, whether they are visual or step-by-step learners.

Managerial Accounting

I'm still using managerial accounting in management consulting engagements, primarily activity-based costing for utility allocation of fixed costs. I am familiar with the areas covered in managerial accounting and use my knowledge to help estimate the variable component of mixed costs in life cycle cost analyses.

Microsoft Excel

I help a lot of finance students with Excel, financial formulas, valuation models, Monte Carlo analysis and portfolio optimization. I also help management science and operations students with simulation and optimization models using the Solver add-in. I am also familiar with the use of Crystal Ball and @RISK.

Probability

I tutor basic probability at the undergraduate level and for MBA programs, covering everything from frequency to combinatorics.

Statistics

I offer tutoring in business (including regression analysis courses), criminal, psychological, political and intermediate statistics, using Microsoft Excel, R Studio, StatTools, Stata and SPSS. I have some minor experience with structural equation modeling and AMOS. I also help graduate level engineering students with mathematical statistics, including Markov chains, queuing, etc.
