Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have effectively tutored middle and high school students in learning algebra, geometry and trigonometric concepts, which are covered on the ACT Math test. I teach a variety of strategies for students to perform at speed on timed math tests, including the model drawing strategy, which reduces the number of operations for algebraic problems.

ACT Science

Over the last several years, I have tutored both middle, high school and college students in various science subjects such as Earth / Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. All of these subjects are covered on the ACT science test. Along with factual information, it is also important to understand how to interpret scientific data. This skill will not only be helpful to students on the ACT Science Test but also in their career in the long run if they decide to major in Science related field.

Algebra 1

I have scored 100% on the WyzAnt Algebra 1 qualification test. I have been tutoring for over 2-years now and have participated in hands-on STEM activities for 10+ years.

Algebra 2

I have a BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering and MS degree in Instruction Design. I have been teaching Algebra 2 for over 2 years. My teaching method is to show various strategies to solve algebraic problems and then emphasize the method that works best for the each student. I also provide lots of practice problems for students to practice at home.

Biology

Many students try to learn biology by memorization of concepts; however, I have been teaching students biology by making it relevant to the students in their everyday life. I teach biology through examples and visual aids such as (diagrams, maps, tables, charts, processes) for better understanding of how concepts are related to provide a big picture. My approach results in higher retention of learned concepts as well as better performance on tests.

Calculus

While completing my bachelor's in engineering, I completed Calculus 1, 2 and 3. While learning Calculus, I discovered that I was also great at teaching the concept to my classmates. I use visual methods, such as diagrams and charts, to explain difficult concepts. Additionally, for every concept I also give students examples to real life applications of calculus to help them understand where it all fit in the bigger picture.

Career Development

While working as a research engineer, I trained and mentored entry-level employees learn new skills required for the position. In addition, I guided new colleagues in direction of activities that would enhance their career portfolio with unique skills.

Chemical Engineering

When I enrolled in college, I had no idea what a career in engineering involved. All I knew was that I loved both chemistry and math in high school. Based on my instinct, I decided to major in Chemical Engineering. I really enjoyed the coursework and never regretted my decision. I have both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. I also worked in the field as a Research Engineer for about 10 years. I enjoy teaching engineering subjects because that is what my passion is.

Chemistry

Chemistry is everywhere and it is part of my life every day. To the students who feel overwhelmed by this subject, I help them understand how much of this subject impacts their lives everyday. While in college, I completed the following courses in chemistry: General, Analytical, Physical and Organic. A strong foundation in chemistry will open gateways to many different careers including professions in life science. Chemistry is a connecting and central science and I can help students see the positive side of learning this subject by providing them with strategies to help learn concepts in small pieces that show them the big picture.

Computer Programming

My journey in programming world began 17 years ago when I took a course in Q-Basic. Since then, I have been programming for both professional and personal projects. I had an opportunity to set up a strong foundation in C++ programming while completing a BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering.
