I have been teaching for nineteen years. I have experience in both public and private education. I have taught English and Social Studies for grades 4-6, as well as 8th grade. I have experience working with gifted children as well as those who struggle academically (ADD/ADHD, executive function, disgraphia, comprehension issues, etc.) In terms of my educational philosophy, I believe that learning should be a positive experience in which the student is actively engaged and having fun. In my classroom, students are frequently up and moving, whether to visually diagram a sentence or act out a historic event. I am challenging, but I also realize that it is my responsibility to give my students the tools they need in order to meet my expectations.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching for 19 years. For the past seven years, I have been teaching 4th and 5th grade. A large part of my job is preparing them for middle school. One of the things I do in that regard is to provide them with study guides and teach them how to utilize them effectively to prepare for tests.
