About Nathan

I'm a young, bright, and talented individual with a background in engineering and a job in operations and marketing. I received my Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and my Masters in the same from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Outside of my formal education, I take great pride in learning as much as I can about the world - from reading anything I can get my hands on (scientific journals, math papers, history books, and fiction novels) to traveling the world, I truly believe that there is something to be learned from every experience.

More importantly, though, is that I am a kind, caring, and compassionate person. In my five years of experience in tutoring, I have only rarely been with a student for less than a year - I truly feel that while the knowledge of a subject is important to being a strong teacher, understanding the pupil and having a comfortable relationship with them is equally as vital. From my colleagues to my friends to my family, I'm seen as a cordial, happy, and energetic individual, and I hope that you get the chance to see me that way as well.

Aside from my strongest qualifications as an engineer (I've taken all math from algebra and calculus to differential equations, linear algebra, and statistics for engineering), I've had plenty of experience tutoring math in the past. What I've seen is that math is a unique subject in the sense that what might be intuitive and apparent to one student is often a major point of confusion to another. This is not a sign that one person is brighter than the other - it just goes to show that people learn and understand in different ways.

Biology has been central to my studies and career. I attended Biotechnology High School, studied Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (Ranked #1 undergraduate program) and at GeorgiaTech (Ranked #1 graduate program), and started my own biomedical company building software that assists in cancer research and diagnosis. I have taken classes and done my own research in genetic engineering, agricultural biotechnology, cell and tissue engineering, molecules and cells, evolutionary biology, developmental biology, anatomy and physiology, and much much more. I think you would be hard-pressed to find someone for whom biology has played a bigger role in their education and career.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions at all about me or material that you're trying to learn. I promise I'll respond quickly and would be happy to schedule any conversation or lesson that you think would be helpful.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
