About Kirstyn

Hello!
Thank you so much for considering me as a tutor!

I have over 10 years of experience with children, youth, and adults, working as a homework tutor with elementary school students, a teacher and supervisor for academics and enrichment for a summer program, serving elementary-aged students, and working with children as a teaching assistant in an after-school program with preschoolers and pre-K students. In addition, I serve as an Executive Director of a nonprofit that works with elementary and middle school girls. Much of my experience is working with children in elementary and middle school tutoring writing, vocabulary, and reading. I have also supported a number of children, youth, and adults over the years in proofreading essays as well. In terms of my expertise and background, I was an English Major at Spelman College and also attended the prestigious Emory University for my Master's Degree program. I have always been passionate about helping students improve their academic reading, vocabulary, and writing skills!

During college and graduate school, I maintained a 3.4 GPA. While at Spelman, I was inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society, and apart of the campus English Club. As a UPS Community Service scholar, I tutored elementary age students in reading at Dean Rusk Elementary school in Atlanta, by helping them improve their reading proficiency. In addition, I served as a girl scout leader and was a mentor for an empowerment program for girls. During graduate school, I was a Resident Assistant for the graduate students at Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

I am an extremely patient teacher and tutor believing that my students have all that they need to be successful! I enjoy helping a learner set real, measurable and attainable goals so that he or she can move forward! Learning should be fun, relevant, and practical. I usually start out with determining where my student is academically, determining what their goals are, and communicating what our timeline might be of how we will work towards achieving those goals. I also feel it’s extremely important to develop rapport and trust with the students I serve at the beginning of the tutoring relationship.

I am an outstanding English tutor because I have had over a decade of experience successfully working with children. I am patient, I always try to address my learners’ needs, and I really believe in celebrating small accomplishments and building a learner's self-confidence along the way!

I encourage you to contact me so we can move forward in achieving your goals together!

Sincerely,
Kirstyn

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Great First Lesson

My son really enjoyed his first lesson with Kirstyn. She was very patient and thorough while assisting him with his handwriting. We will be continuing his lessons weekly.
