Eastern Michigan University (BFA Ptg and Drawing)
MFA, Maryland Institute College of Art (Other)
I am a professional exhibiting artist and taught art for over 12 years. I taught beginning art classes to college students when I finished grad school at MICA, and then I worked with high school students for 10 years. I'm a patient person and I'm very good getting the best out of my students. I believe strongly that art, like any other discipline, is one you have to practice to get good at! Hard work and the right teaching methods can really help a student become a good artist.
I have a BFA in Painting and Drawing, and earned a MFA (Painting) from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Mount Royal graduate program.
For observational work (drawing/painting from real life), I help my students "see" and teach them techniques to help them with developing realistic work. As the student gets more experience, I bring in expression/personal voice as well as developing a strong idea.
I've worked with beginner to AP students in high school. I love it best when my student is able to do something that they didn't think possible. Helping the student develop confidence and joy in making art is the best feeling.
Subjects: Painting in acrylic, oil, inks, watercolor and gouaches; mixed media, collage, College Portfolio Preparation; Adobe Photoshop, film and digital photography (SLR), alternative photographic processes, Art History. Please get in touch if you'd like to hear more about my lessons and teaching style. I look forward to hearing from you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
