About Sebastian

I have contributed to and led multiple research programs on elucidating COPD and lung cancer molecular etiologies, mainly focusing on DNA methylation epigenetics. I have Worked using real-time methylation specific PCR, bisulfite sequencing, and pyrosequencing assays to find and validate biomarkers for pathogenesis and disease progression. In 2015, I was awarded university support to work on research in cancer epigenetics.

I am efficient in helping you achieve the excellent scores you want in your biology, K-12 general sciences, pre-med courses, and AP Biology exam.

I am a bilingual speaker of English and Spanish. I have taken college level advanced literature and composition courses in English and Spanish. I teach Spanish in a functional way, focusing on your efficient thinking, speaking, reading, and accent in Spanish, much in the way immersion courses operate.

I am very knowledgeable in R programming and have taught many beginners using the same methods that were used by some of the greatest R programmer faculty members at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine to teach me.

I am patient and ambitious in my goals for all of my student. I have helped several high school students improve their science skills, land internships in JHU School of Medicine and get accepted into top colleges. I believe anyone can achieve their academic goals if they have the right guidance and determination.

I have experience working with R programming every day, particularly with the Bioconductor packages for biological statistics applications. I have collaborated with the developer of various R packages on translating genetic expression data into prognostic tests for bladder cancer. I have also collaborated with some of the most known researchers that work developing R packages.

I have years of experience taking undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level courses in biology and medicine. I have also trained high school students, college students, and medical students in the prestigious JHU School of Medicine lab where I work.

I am fully bilingual and will converse with you, assign advanced readings, and help you become fluent and able to think in Spanish, as an independent course. I can also help you with Spanish courses you are already taking.

I have taken college level composition classes and have written several research papers within biomedicine and theology, some of which have been published or are in review to be published.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

R

I have been working with R every day for the past 2 years. I work as a researcher in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Head and Neck Cancer Research Division where I use R to import microarray data, process it, and then analyze it. I also use R to organize databases and participated in the development of an R package built by one of the faculty members here.

Invaluable Tutor for R Programming

Sebastian has been an invaluable tutor for R programming. He came to our sessions prepared and with a good understanding of my networks assignments, even as he does not himself study networks. After working with Sebastian, I was able to complete my homework assignments on my own, when I was unable to do so in the past. He was available via text if I needed him and was really good at troubleshooti
