Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music in Music Composition. I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. As a graduate assistant at the Longy School of Music, I worked with individual students to improve various areas of musicianship such as: music theory, keyboard harmony, analytical techniques, ear-training, and solfege. I have experience working with students of all skill level from beginner to advanced.
Along with tutoring, I have studied composition and classical guitar at both institutions I have attended. As a composer, I have written for a myriad of ensembles such as: solo piano, string quartet, wind quintet, orchestra, and a variety of mixed chamber ensembles. I am happy to assist and guide the ideas of any student interested in composition. As a guitarist, I am active performer as a soloist and chamber musician. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently hold a B.A. in Music composition from Keene State College, a M.M. in Music Composition from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and I am pursuing a D.M.A in Music Composition at The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (pending Fall 2016). Along with holding various degrees in this field, I have won composition competition such as: the Pappalardo Composition Competition and the Longy Conservatory Orchestra Composition Competition. I was a graduate assistant at the Longy School of Music and I have worked one on one with various students of all levels.
I hold a B.A. and M.M. in music composition. My primary instrument is the classical guitar. I have studied under Jose Lezcano and William Riley for the past six years. I was awarded "Instrumentalist of the year" during the 2013-2014 academic school at Keene State College. I am an active performer as a soloist and collaborator. I have taught guitar to various students of all levels and ages.
In order to achieve my degrees, high scores in various music history courses were required. I have studied each era: Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern, in detail through semester-long courses. Along with studying in each era in detail, I also worked as a personal tutor and helped individual students gain the required knowledge to pass music history courses.
High scores in ear-training, solfege, and sight-singing were required to earn my degrees. I also have experience working as a sight-singing/ear-training tutor at both of my institutions. I worked with students in specific areas such as: dictation (melodic, harmonic, rhythmic), intervals, scales, chord recognition, and sight-singing/solfege.
