University of Maryland Baltimore County (Theatre and French)
Hello! I am a scholarship student at UMBC in Baltimore, Maryland. I will be graduating in May 2018, and from there I hope to be able to travel the world for a while.
In the meantime, I'm looking to offer tutoring for people who have are interested in studying Theatre, Public Speaking and Beginner French.
At UMBC, I study Theatre Studies, which is an all-encompassing program that focuses on all the areas of theatre, but I specifically focus on Acting and Playwriting/Dramaturgy. I also study French language and literature. As a student at UMBC, I am a member of the Linehan Artist Scholars Program, an employee of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation, as well as a volunteer for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship. I am currently a representative of the Theatre Department of UMBC, where I travel the state and promote the program at college fairs, high school festivals, etc.
I have been studying French since I was about 11. In the downtime between French classes at school, I keep my proficiency up to par by reading literature and news in French, watching French films, listening to French music, and speaking to French speakers. I would be able to teach introductory French for students looking to get a head start on a foreign language.
Part of being an actor at UMBC, I am required to be comfortable with speaking English clearly and confidently. Public Speaking and English both go hand-in-hand and require a cool mind and steady voice.
I've been studying theatre for about 6 years, 2 of which in a University setting. I have taken classes in all areas of theatre, including design, theory, acting and analysis.
I hope that you'll find me an excellent fit for your needs. Please feel free to get in touch and we'll schedule times that work for us. I hope to hear from you soon! Thanks! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I study, among other things, Acting, at UMBC. One of the main requirements of being an actor is the ability to speak confidently and clearly in front of an audience. I've been performing for 6 years, and so have that ability.
In addition, I regularly give speeches and sit on panels at UMBC, where I discuss my experience to prospective students and parents. Again, the ability to speak clearly and confidently are absolutely necessary to stand before an audience of people who are listening to you speak, which might make or break a student's opinion of UMBC.
I am also a leading member of Dog Collar Comedy at UMBC, which is an improv troupe. A demand of improvisation is the ability to think quickly on your feet and respond eloquently without and kind of paper to guide one.
These three things have lent themselves to me as ways of refining my ability to speak publicly.
I am a second-year student at UMBC where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies. In just my first two years at UMBC, I have studied all numerous things related to theatre: Literature, History, Theory, Acting, Design, and analysis.
In addition, I have experience working as a designer, actor, technician and stage manager for numerous performing arts events the require the use of a theatre space.
In the next two years, I am intending on taking courses on Writing, Directing, and more specific fields of theatre, such as Epic Theatre of the early 1900s, American Modern Theatre, and Political Theatre from 1950-Present.
