About Amy Cooperman

I have been an Occupational Therapist for 18 years. During that time, I have done extensive reading tutoring using the Reading Revolution multisensory method since 2000.

I have used this method successfully for regular education students who were falling behind due to poor instruction, for anxious learners who had previous phobia or trauma associated with reading, and with special needs students as well. I have taught students with Down syndrome to read.

My back round includes autism, and I am Certified in Sensory Integration. I integrate all my skill areas for my student's needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have been working with this population for the past 5-7 years as an occupation therapist, both privately and in schools. My students either come to my home or I travel to their homes weekly. I work with these students on vocational skills as well as developing talents in art, crafts, sewing and woodworking.

Dyslexia

I have taught the Revolution Program successfully for the past 17 years. I have had students who were diagnosed with dyslexia as well as other issues.

Handwriting

I have been an occupational therapist for the past 18 years. One of the major areas we address is handwriting in print and cursive. We are trained to remediate handwriting difficulties using our training in anatomy and neuroscience.

Phonics

I have been tutoring reading using the Award-winning Reading Revolution program, which is being used in public schools across the country. It is a phonics, reading and spelling program. I have used it for the past 14 years with regular and special ed. students.

Special Needs

I have worked with children and adults with autism, Asperger', Down syndrome and other special needs for over 20 years. I have taught reading including spelling, phonics and comprehension.
