About Akshay

My passion for teaching has always come directly from my family. Living with a mother who is a teacher and two sisters who are tutors, I have always witnessed a sense of pure satisfaction in their achievements from working with their students. Throughout schooling, my grandfather who was a math professor would teach me mathematics at the crack of dawn so I could obtain a head start in the fields of algebra, pre-calculus, etc. before I even reached school. Needless to say, these awakenings sharpened my math skills to a fine point, a point which helped me to achieve a near perfect score in the ACT Math section and an 800 in the SAT Math section. In Pikesville Middle School, I took Pre-Algebra in 6th grade, Algebra in 7th grade, Algebra II in 8th grade, and aced all courses. Upon arrival to Pikesville High School, I took the highest placement Geometry course in 9th grade, Pre-Calculus in 10th grade, AP Calculus AB in 11th grade, and AP Calculus BC in 12th grade. I have also been awarded as "Hardest Worker in Calculus" from Pikesville High School. Currently, I attend Loyola University Maryland as a senior where I am working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Information Systems. I had taken a high level calculus course in my freshman year of schooling at this university and received a final grade of an "A".

It is relatively easy for me to connect to and understand my students compared to other tutors since I am still enrolled in college and there is less of an age difference. My schedule is extremely flexible; I am available for tutoring all days throughout the week (including weekends). The ultimate goal for myself here is to make sure that my students receive an extra boost of help in mathematics. When I teach a student math, I want to see them learn how to solve all sorts of problems related to that problem, not only the specific problem itself. This will help the student ace any exams, pop quizzes, and quizzes at any given time because the student will understand the foundation of problem-solving via tutoring sessions. Overall, helping my students achieve superior scores in mathematics will boost their confidence in the math field and possibly other subjects of studies as well.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I achieved a near perfect score on the ACT Math section when I took the exam for college admissions. ACT Math includes geometry, trigonometry, and algebra, all areas of math that I am highly proficient in. ACT Math is very different from SAT Math and therefore each problem is approached in a different manner, a key step to success that I learned through practice and experience.

Algebra 1

I achieved a grade of an "A" in Algebra I and have aced Business Algebra at Loyola University Maryland. I have strongly sharpened my algebra skills since then and continue to do so on a daily basis due to my majors in Finance & Information Systems. Algebra is also the fundamentals of Information Systems which I started to double major in at Loyola University Maryland last year.

Algebra 2

I achieved a grade of an "A" in Algebra II and have aced all university Algebra courses. I have strongly sharpened my algebra skills since then and continue to do so on a daily basis due to my majors in Finance & Information Systems. Algebra II is also the fundamentals of Calculus which I took at Loyola University Maryland last year.

Prealgebra

I answered all Prealgebra related SAT questions correctly and received a perfect score in the math portion of the SAT. Prealgebra is essentially the foundation of higher level math that I use on a daily basis through a program called MATLAB, a programming software which is used in conjunction with finance firms and my major.

SAT Math

I achieved a perfect score on the SAT Math section when I took the exam for college admissions. SAT Math includes algebra, word problems, and arithmetic, all areas of math that I am highly proficient in. SAT Math is very different from ACT Math and therefore each problem is approached in a different manner, a key step to success that I learned through practice and experience.
