I was born in Maryland and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I have been homeschooled throughout grade and high school while taking classes through the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth program and through Germanna Community College. I am currently attending Johns Hopkins University (class of 2016), and and am majoring in Engineering Mechanics (Mechanical Engineering) with a minor in Computer Integrated Surgery, and a focus in Biomechanics.
I have had extensive experience in working with youth through volunteering with programs such as Engineering for Kids and being active in ministry at my church, the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. I have completed a Teaching Techniques class through the Bible Institute, and am a Certified Youth Altar Counselor there. I love the Lord, and have a passion for sharing knowledge and encouraging others in their endeavors. My tutoring experience includes teaching an SAT class, and participating in online tutoring through InstaEDU.
My academic qualifications include the following: I have completed an engineering instrumentation design internship at the George Washington University, and have participated in the Women in Engineering program at the University of Maryland, College Park since age twelve. I was a member of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society, and was selected as a National Society of High School and Gates Millenium Scholar. I tested above average in the IOWA, SAT, ACT and AP exams, and understand how they work. I also took a rigorous AP English and Composition class which has prepared me extensively in the area of college level-writing, and I have taken math classes up to Calculus 3. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
