About Emmanuel

I am a 2011 graduate of Morgan State University with a degree in Biology(Pre-Med). I have tremendous experience in tutoring which goes way back to high school where I was the class captain and was required as part of my duties to tutor my mates who had difficulties in certain subjects. The satisfaction that comes with being able to help my fellow students excel in their challenging subject areas spurred me to continue tutoring while in college.

Throughout my tutoring career, I have been able to identify key reasons why some subjects appear challenging to students. I have realized that some students become easily distracted in class and therefore miss the salient concepts being taught while others have bad note-taking skills which negatively impacts their learning and comprehension ability. In other cases however, teachers do not have enough time to fully explain difficult concepts or oversimplify a topic and later give relatively difficult tests. Since each student's case is unique, I develop a personalized approach that suits the learning style of the tutee.

When I tutor in subjects like mathematics, I make sure that I thoroughly explain each step and clarify any questions then I make the tutee explain it back to me in their own terms. By doing so, I can determine whether the tutee has fully understood the concept being taught and is confident on solving similar problems correctly. Also, I spend significant amount of time solving problems and explaining common caveats that confuses students. I also give a lot of assignments to build confidence in challenging topics. When I tutor in the sciences such as biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, and physics, I rely greatly on study aids such as youtube videos, illustrations, flashcards, mnemonics, and everyday experiences to clarify concepts. I believe that mnemonics and identity words are the surest way to remember very detailed concepts.

As such, I help the tutee come out with familiar mnemonics that can help in memorization. I also help prepare students for their standardized exams such as SAT, ACT and GMAT.I am a strong believer in the maxim practice makes perfect so I am relentless on practicing a lot of questions. I have experience in tutoring from the elementary level up to the university level and my tutees witness significant increase in their grades. I am therefore looking forward to helping you achieve excellent grades in your challenging courses and helping you develop learning strategies that will benefit you in your educational career.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I completed a course in Calculus 2 (differential equations) when I was in university. Differential equations is a step ahead of calculus 1. I obtained grades of A in both courses. I solved a lot of practice questions and purchased a solution manual where I could crosscheck my answers. The only viable way to effectively tutor differential equations is by solving lots of practice questions so I overemphasize that during tutoring. I have 3 years' experience in tutoring differential equations so I am very confident in positively impacting potential tutees.

Genetics

I completed a course in Genetics in university with a grade of A. Being a biology major, I encountered the principles of genetics in almost all the other fields such as molecular biology where I studied microorganism genetics. In order to understand genetics, there's a need to understand the structure and function of DNA and RNA molecules as well as the punnet squares. I have 2 years of tutoring in the subject and I employ mostly mnemonics and flashcards to reinforce concepts. I believe my knowledge and experienced in tutoring Genetics makes me a viable tutor.

Organic Chemistry

I completed courses in organic chemistry 1 & 2 in college, including Lab. I made excellent grades of A in each section and I have 3 years of tutoring experience in the subject. I relied on youtube videos for clarification on complex concepts such as nomenclature of complex molecules. Since organic chemistry is quite a challenging subject, I explain in detail each single step before proceeding to the next and I answer any relevant questions for clarification.
