Bio

I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins and an M.D. I am currently in residency. I have experience in both the sciences and the humanities as I was a double major in biology and classics as an undergrad (I obtained my BA from Bryn Mawr College in 2011--magna cum laude with honors in biology). I have been heavily involved in teaching, tutoring and mentoring all throughout my education.

I taught and tutored for introductory biology and genetics at Bryn Mawr. I led 1-2 hour instruction sessions twice a week which supplemented the professor's lectures, and prepared worksheets, problem sets, and mock exams. One of my strengths is teaching students to problem solve and work their way through the questions. I can help students find a new way to approach the problems and think up novel ways of solving them.

I was also a teaching assistant for the laboratory portions of introductory biology, genetics, and molecular biology so I am well trained in assisting students to think through experimental processes and scientific literature. As a graduate student, I mentored numerous younger students in the lab. I am very capable of walking a student through the experimental process and explaining the nitty gritty details. I myself have been conducting laboratory research since 2007. I currently work in transplant immunology. Additionally, I have formally tutored general chemistry for my undergraduate college.

Art History

I took AP art history in high school and scored 5 on the AP exam. As a college student, I took several semester long electives in the history of art, some of which include "19th century art in France," "Ancient Greek Cities and Sanctuaries," "classical art," and "The Northern Renaissance."

Proofreading

Proofreading

I got a 790 on the writing section (a lot of multiple choice grammar questions when I took it) of the SAT in high school, and I have edited a wide range of papers written by myself and others. As a humanities major, being able to write and proofread papers were required skills for successful completion of many courses.

English

Literature,

Literature

I am extremely well read and participated in a variety of required general literary and writing seminars while I was a college student. Also, as a classics major, I was required to engage with, discuss, and write about a variety of well known and widely read ancient texts including Plato, Aristotle, Homer, Aristophanes, Thucydides, Euripides, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Vergil, Catullus, Horace, Cicero, Demosthenes, and Pindar.

I have a BA degree from Bryn Mawr College in Ancient Greek (philology). I have taken six years of Latin, additionally. I also have significant experience with classical literature and history as part of my philology studies.
European History

European History

I received the score of 5 on the AP exam in high school and generally have pursued European History as a side interest. I would be most helpful to high school students or to college students taking 100 or 200 level classes in the area.

Anatomy,

Anatomy

I have taken undergraduate and graduate courses in anatomy. As an undergraduate I worked on frogs, fetal pigs, crayfish, the necturus, and cats. As a graduate student, my PhD program required me to take an organ systems based human anatomy class in which I spent three months dissecting human cadavers. It was extremely informative.
Biochemistry,

Biochemistry

As an undergraduate I took an advanced course in Biochemistry, for which there were three prerequisites: two semesters of organic chemistry and one semester of molecular biology. In graduate school I have completed course work in pathways and cellular regulation.

I took Microbiology as an undergraduate and I have taken Virology and Immunology as a graduate student. Additionally, there was a microbiology section to the course I was a TA and tutor for in college.
Pharmacology,

Pharmacology

I have completed graduate work (courses) in pharmacology that was required for my Ph.D. I have experience in very broad based pharmacology so I can tutor for a variety of lecture types (gene therapy, cardio pharm, cancer pharm, etc). I would be best suited tutoring college students in their pharmacology courses as graduate courses differ from institution to institution and may not cover the same core areas as mine did.
Physiology

Physiology

I have taken undergraduate and graduate coursework in physiology. The second half of the course I taught/tutored for in undergraduate was focused on physiology.
